I know, I know, go out and look at them will be the response, which I am planning on doing later this week. I would still like input from those of you that do carry. My b-n-law carries a kel-tec and/or a glock. I looked at his k-tec this weekend and liked it. My s-n-law carries a glock and her husband a ruger. Their son-n-law carries a springfield. So what does everyone out there like?

Depends on your body size and how well you want to conceal it. If you want small caliber and lightweight, the Ruger LCP in .380 is a good choice. Also, the S & W airweights (.38spl + P) revolvers are good too. If you want something bigger the Glock or Sig. If you want a .22, the Walther P22 is a good choice.
I know alot of people say they have to have a .45 or .357 for personal defense, but I have always been told that most personal defense weapons are used at 3 to 4 yards max typically. IMO, a small caliber like a .22 or .380 is adequate. Some folk will say that will just piss a guy off, but heck, any bullet put into an assilant (sp) will deter them. I've seen an 1800 # holstein cow put down with 1 shot from a .22.
Most of all, be completely familiar and comfortable with whatever you carry.

You hit the nail on the head... go look. FIrstoff there will be different applications for different guns... i.e. Generally people who carry alot have more than 1 carry gun... alot depends on where you are going and time of year... Try carrying a full size 1911 in shorts and a tee shirt... it is a lot esier to conceal a ruger LCP than a full size 1911 in that scenerio...
Go look, consider your budget, consider when you are planning on carying.... Do not get stuck on 1 brand or another.... there is no 100% perfect carry gun for every situation.....
There are always people who want to bash 1 gun or another... IF you really want as close to a 100% reliable gun as you can get, get a revolver....

Kahr P9 in an Alessi IWB holster. The most comfortable and concealable set up i have ever worn. I use to carry a Colt Combat Commander and got tired of it riding my pants down.

Really though, glad the officer / deputy was able to stop the attacker. However, in talking with my friends and family in law enforcement, they do tend to wear ballistic vests to aid in that respect.

I have a Glock 32 357 Sig that would be a fight stopper for sure,,but I like the 442 airweight hammerless double action .
with Speer Gold Dot ammo 38Spl+P I dont see after 2-3 to the chest getting beat by anybody
the thing with that though is if you run into a gang of meth heads 5 rounds may not be enough,

Be sure that you are comfortable with it and are very familiar with the weapon. A gun is about as helpful as a rock and may get you into more trouble if you are fumbling with a safety on it. Spend time at the range, drawing and dryfiring, etc.
Hardware (holsters) are almost as important as the gun itself. I have a "just in time" (cant think of who makes it) that I use. I gave up on the Galco small of back holster cause I was having a hard time drawing it (course the holster needs some stretching).

My sister's boyfriend just went and bought a FN FX9 today. Pretty nice gun. Wonder how it shoots though.
well i prefer to have my glock 27 but if i have to dress up it's the kel tec p3at.
If i could only have one of the 2 for carry it would be the p3at because i can carry it comfortably concealed in any clothing.

i carry a ruger sp101 357 2 1/4 in barrel i carry it everyday with any clothing get a good holster and a stiff belt its an awsome gun with plenty of power

I carry a Taurus millenium pro 40 cal. Sub-compact and easy to conceal.
I like my Walther P99 alot,I want a PPS,its a very slim handgun.Kinda like a scaled down version of the P99. I carry my walther everywhere,in all clothing,I have a IWB (inside the wasteband) holster and a holster tha goes outside the waiste band.My IWB is the Don Hume holster,For $27 you can't beat it,its a nice holster for the money..Here is where I got mine from..

Sako pretty much said it best. Most people who carry have more than 1 depending on the time of year. I have 3 different CCW's and decide what I'm going to carry by the attire I have on. Also, the holster you have is very important. You need to decide how you want to carry. Do you want to carry inside the waist band (IWB), pocket carry, small of the back, etc... By far, the best holster I've used so far is the Cross Breed IWB holster. The holster looks gigantic, but when you have it on you can barely tell you have it on and knowbody will tell you are carrying.
My favorites are the Kahr PM series, H&K P2000, Ruger LCP/LCR. The new Sig P290 would be a nice addition to carry.

I carry a Ruger LCP in the summer months or if I really need to hide it. Its a good carry gun because its so easy to conceal, there is no reason to not have it. I carry a S&W model 638 in the winter months or any time I feel like wearing a holster.

Glock 29 10mm. Bar none the most firepower you can carry in a compact pistol. I recommend anyone who wants one to handload, factory ammo is hard to find and is loaded weak, close to 40s&w power levels. I have a glock 20 and it can safely be loaded to over 700 ft pounds of energy plus.

My Sig 229DAK 40 hides well in a good holster and a good belt. 1,500+ rounds down range without a hiccup. I'd bet my life on that gun.
