I've attached a pic of a rifle I just picked up. I have never had this many marks and letters before. I know the Remington codes, but how would one interpret all of this?
I just picked up this 7600. My guess is the KG means it was made in May of 86; and possibly that the AJ means it was repaired or serviced by Remington in March of 1989. But I am just guessing, that's why I'm reaching out.
Easiest thing to do is call Remington at their 800 number and give them the serial number. You will then know which code is correct and they may tell you the reason for the two codes.
I emailed Remington and my hunch was correct. They didn't have any record of the repair they made based on the serial number, but they confirmed it was sent back and worked on.
