Capturing your hunts

Do you guys film your hunts? If so, what is your choice if video camera to use? And for a reliable price

Yeah I have filmed every hunt this year. I'm not very experienced so i am getting better and not everything turns out good. I use a Lumix fx75 point and shoot. Takes decent HD video and great pics. I got mine real cheap online like $77 but its not too expensive at normal price either.

I have a sony handy cam cheap its like 150-200 I think and very impressive for the price. I have used some high money cameras filming for some shows any where from Panasonic, sony and canon. if your going to spend a little more money I really like the canon awesome hd video. but mainly I use the sony handy cam its cheap and it does a good job. the one bad thing about it is it doesn't have a manual focus so it can be a pain when in woods or something like that. if you're just starting out get something cheap and see how you like it, I love filming myself but it is extremely hard to do but it is addicting.

The small handycams work very well for starting out, you can usually get them anywhere from $100-$200 bucks. When I first started I shot alot of hunts on an JVC Everio that cost me $120,still use it from time to time for b-roll. The main thing is get something cheap and see if you like,and have fun! All of the Canon Vixia HF cameras are awesome. I have a HF S30. In addition to a flip around touch screen that functions like a smart phone, the S series also have a viewfinder. 1081 dpi HD and a must is full manual features. I would look for HD w/ good low light (low lux #), capable of recording to internal drive, flash card or both (wouldn't buy miniDv or other tape). I've been wanting to give this a try too. Done a lot of searching on various forums and it seems Canon is a popular choice with many self-filmers. I don't know that I can get everything I need to try it this season, but I hope to be able to start next year.

I take an older sony cam with me but just have it attached to my shoulders with a binocular strap. For that reason, I can only film something before it gets into shooting range or something I don't plan to shoot. What do you guys use to hold the camera so you can film the shot? I'm in a Viper so I've only found camera arms that strap to the tree....

i have been using a GOPRO camera. Its awesome. its in a waterproof housing and its small. i like it because if can be mounted on a bow, a gun, or on the tree or whatever. Its very simple to use and it takes very good pictures. another cool thing is it has a built in wifi signal and you can connect you smart phone to it. so you could actually place it on a tree and start or stop it using your phone. Im thinking about mounting it on a tree behind me during the muzzy and gun season and getting a shot of me and the deer if i can be so lucky!

A bow/gun camera mount works pretty well for those who want to self film. I recommend a good camera arm if you have a camera man.

I'm using a contour roam2 this year. I do have a cannon handycam and a lone wolf camera arm so I might try that soon.

I did a dove hunt with a roam. It was much better than I expected.

With that said, since it has no zoom, you are limited on distance. I used it on a turkey hunt in the spring, and you really can't see much detail after 40 yards or so.
