Can't Pull My Bow Back

So I've had two shoulder surgeries in the past 5 months. I haven't flung an arrow one at a target but I'm confident at my experience with this bow I've shot since 2001. Tomorrow morning 10-22-16 should be great...... I came home today a little early from the office because I could feel it's time and I might climb a tree. I ended up not hunting because there was too much deer movement this afternoon and didn't want to spook and educate them on my way to my stand. I ended up watching 2 mature bucks spar for the last half hour of light in my back yard and young bucks running around pushing a group of 4 does. I was pumped to go in the morning and as I got my gear ready even though it's been hanging outside for 4 weeks I pulled the bow out and tried to pull it back and I'm too weak from all the atrophy on my left side. I'm bummed to say the least cause one of the bucks fighting tonight was pushing 140", a 10 pt and had crab claw g4's. I was planning on rattling it in and notch another P&Y buck. So I'm gonna try and go anyway and take a camera.... It ain't about killing for me anyway but it is about connecting with nature and the experience. Good luck to everyone tomorrow... It's gonna be a good one

Hang tough through it. I have had rotator and labrum surgery. It's not easy but you will be back. One piece of advice that I learned the hard way is don't push it too early.

My worst fear is having shoulder problems that lead to not being able to pull back a bow. But that's one good thing about crossbows. Good luck even if you just take a camera. Maybe consider buying a crossbow if your shoulder doesn't get any better.

I feel your pain. Went through that several years ago. Got a auto cocker for my crossbow. NOT the same as a Compound but it worked.

If I continue to go downhill in my shoulder, this may be my next purchase:

It basically turns your current compound bow into a crossbow. I think I might like it better than a horizontal crossbow, and by retrofitting a current bow, the cost is significantly less.

Man that might be what I need this year

It should remove at least some of the shoulder issues. Like a lot of crossbows, it has a foot piece you step into to hold it while you use both arms to chocolate chip cookie it. And, since you are not buying a new bow or arrows (or bolts), it isn't as expensive as even a cheap horizontal crossbow. I haven't researched it enough to know if a regular arrow rest works or not.

I threw it out there as an option you might want to check out. I understand the frustration for what you are going through. Hang in there!

That is pretty awesome!!
Are the limbs of a compound durable enough to withstand being drawn back for such extended periods of time?

I have no idea on the limb issue.

That sucks about your shoulder but I can't believe noone has pointed out the fact that you were going to take to the woods with a bow you hadn't shot in months. If I posted some of the distances I've taken deer at with a bow I'd get flamed for a week.

How low is your draw weight? Can it be lowered?

I could lower it but I would lose my accuracy, I pull 72lbs and I use a pendulum sight which allows me to shoot zero to 50 yds from a tree with one pin, on the ground I'm good to almost 40 yds with one pin, I've had this bow since 2001 I think, Hoyt Hyper Tech 315 fps through the chrono, I tried pulling back my recurve and I couldn't put a dent in it..... but it has 60lb limbs and that is a bow I would have to practice with, I may miss this year but at least I can see everyone's pics and read the stories here

Drop the poundage......you lose speed/kinetic energy, not accuracy, I am shooting 55lbs with my Elite Victory 37 with CX Maxima 350s tipped with 100gn Muzzys.......they blow through target out to 60!
