With the weather. I do not get a lot of days to hunt with the schedule I work coupled with the near 2 hour a way commute to my spot. Never have hunted archery or ML so just started at gun season. So far sleet, wind and rain have killed my hunts (mainly wind it's been bad).

Got a promotion at work this week and have to train my replacement so I switched days off from Tuesday to Friday just this week. At the time there was a 30% chance of rain Friday now it is 70% lol. On the bright side I can hunt Friday, Sunday and Tuesday this week and next; just hoping for decent weather a couple days. I really want to get one deer this year, not greedy just one. If I do not see anything in my next three hunts my confidence will be shot.

It's just crazy with the area I found scouting that I haven't seen a single deer. There are new scrapes and rubs every time I go and still not even a sighting outside on the road driving in.
 
Just got to hang in there man. I killed my best deer in a monsoon. It's rough hunting with few sightings but when it's on, it's on.
 
Rain isn't a bad thing to hunt.. I like a light rain or a day with off and on showers with good breaks in between... Man I feel you on not seeing any deer.. I'm having the exact same problem... Haven't seen any in my last 3 sits now...
 
Yeh the wind this year seems to have been worse than in years past or I'm accustomed too having... Most of my stands are hung to hunt with a south to southeast and east wind cause that's out predominate wind but seems like it's been out of he north northwest all year and when it isn't it's a 20mph wind...
 
I am also having to transition from hunting the river bottoms in West TN on the Miss. River to the mountains and it is a different world all together. Couple that with only having public land to hunt on until an opening comes up on the lease I am wait listed on it makes it tough. Big South Fork is tough hunting it seems. I have now hunted 4 full days and have heard exactly 1 shot which was Thanksgiving morning.

I prefer hunting in the rain to hunting high pressure clear and sunny days! Be optimistic and good things might happen!
 
You are driving past some better areas to get to big south fork! I would look closely at North Cumberland or Mount Roosevelt before I drove to BSF!

Thanks Diehard I will look into them. Mount Roosevelt looks intriguing on the maps does it see a lot of pressure? Its a lot closer. I just always thought BSF was the top public land in the area, but when it comes to hunting I know very little about the area.
 
There are parts of Roosevelt that get little to no pressure, especially the parts away from the interstate. Some areas close to the interstate get swarmed with people.
 
Anyone ever hunted "Forks of the River WMA" in Knoxville? I know it is shotgun only but thats what I use more than anything anymore. Is it worth hunting?

I sort of figured but being so close I thought I would ask.

I am in the spot that I only have 8-9 days left of the season I can hunt and have only scouted my area of BSF but am sort of losing confidence in it not because I have not seen a deer but because in the large expanse I have only heard one shot all season. Now the weather was bad every day I have hunted it has been super windy and they do not like that lol.

I just cannot decide if it is worth it to use one of those days to try Mount Roosevelt or somewhere on North Cumberland or Royal Blue going in blind or if I should just put in the hours in my BSF spot. I know there are deer there, sign everywhere. Fresh scrapes, tracks and rubs every time I go in and in the area I hunt there is not a lot of pressure. I am surprised to see more than one car. Most seem to head down a wilderness road deep into the woods and my spot is very close to the entrance and not far from the road at all. I have walked miles and miles and have not found close to the signs anywhere else.

I just really want meat in the freezer this winter lol.
 
There are also quite a few TVA public hunting lands around Knoxville too. I hunt one of them here by the house, but there are quite a few within a half hour drive from me.
