My favorite handgun I own and it's not even close. It's like an entry level "race" gun IMO
Not so much of a carry gun due to size

would have probably called it amazing but I've not shot any top of the line upgraded triggers so I can't really go that far because lack of experience with high grade stuff.

I have quite a few. Rival poly and steel, TTI, SFX Pro, SFT Pro, Prime, MC9 LS, SFT and SF One, TP9, and I'm sure I am forgetting others. Hands down best stock striker fire you can buy. I additionally have many other pistols; Glocks, SIG, Walther, FN, Zev, Staccato, OA Defense, Kimber, and so on.

They're great for the money but there are a couple things I wish they'd change. First, the recoil spring tends to be overpowered for the kind of reloads I make (minor power factor 9mm). There is a lighter spring available that you can get to address this. Second, I'm not in love with their optic mount design. The plate is thicker than I like and gets the optic too high, and the tiny screws are made out of Velveeta. I've had to remove a handful of broken-off screws for folks. Trigger-wise, they are about the best out of the box trigger you'll find for the money, right up there with the Walther PDP.

Agreed that stock Canik platforms aren't open class ready competition guns. Not sure if there are any pistols available that don't require tuning or aftermarket options to dial in a weapon system specific to a shooters desired performance.

As far as guide rod tuning concerns. I swap out the captured spring factory assembly with simple heavy guide rod (steel/tungsten) and use colt commander recoil springs. Spring weight can range from 12-17 lbs based on what grain and speed you prefer. As far as optic plate thickness, there are a couple different manufacturers that offer different thickness options. As far as setting up a competition gun goes, slightly higher mounts allow for acquiring optic faster and engage more screw threads when mounting optic and plate. Ultimately providing a stronger mount. I have never experienced a Canik mounting screw failure as of yet, but always possible especially in today's YouTube age with folks racking the slide with optic. Most all optic mounting screws are limited to 13-15 inch pounds.
