I've heard that the regs were changing, but took it with a grain of salt until I picked up the new Fishing Regulation book. I know many may not agree with the new regs, but I'm excited about it. That river will be one of the best in the country in terms of quality. That's my thought anyhow.
 
The regs will help, if they get enforced. My concern is the crowds of people sitting in lawn chairs at the access points, catching and keeping everything. If they can't tell the difference between a Brown and a Rainbow, how much are they going to care about measuring the fish?
 
I hope the regs help as well. I have always looked forward to catching a big brown. I will say this Jake while I agree they will have to police the folks you are referring to; the Caney Fork is the only river i have ever fished on where I have actually seen GW(s) patrolling.
 
I like the new regulations. They wont really affect me, as it was rare for me to keep a brown that would now fit in the protected slot. I do agree that enforcement is most important, especially in the beginning. The caney is a big river, but the segment that receives the most fishing pressure is really small, and is easily subject to that pressure and other factors, man-made and evironmental.
Though difficult to prove and determine the cause, I have noticed a drastic change in my catch numbers of mid size rainbows and browns for the past year or so, especially the rainbows. Regardless, TWRA relies on more than just anecdotal accounts, and I trust the new regs. could only have a positive impact.
Now, if they could only find a way to make the rockfish follow the new regulations...
 
They have helped the Clinch dramatically, it has made a huge difference in the overall quality of the fishery. It needs some enforcement help in a bad way, and hopefully this year maybe some GW's can find the time to visit it every now and then.
