I'm not a regular on the CF, but make a trip there occasionally. I haven't been this year at all. But I heard something yesterday that has me wondering about the conditions there. The term used was "dead." The story goes that as a result of the floods the river was "washed clean", most of the trout were "washed away", and the trout that didn't wash away were eaten by the stripers that moved upstream during the high waters. No mention was made of other kinds of fish.

I'm wondering if there is any validity to these statements. It sounds just a tad over the top to me, but there could be some truth to it. I also wonder if some people are confusing changes in the river due to flood waters with "lost fish" since the fish may be in different locations now than they were before the flooding.

Just want to hear what you CF regulars are observing.

floated it saturday and was about the same as always we were fishing for stripers and caught 11 also got some nice trout on the jerk baits, only caught 3 trout but that was not what we were after

from what i seen it was worth the try anyway and it was busy, several people out there

I had a guy tell me that Saturday. Said he is just going to find a new place to fish. Since there arent any left on the caney. :D

:D Yeh, I think that's the story to spread. Then I think that I will plan a CF float trip.

A buddy of mine caught an 8.75 lb brown there July 4th morning, but he did say the river was not good fishing. He just got lucky with that one.
