Anyone know what the hot flies for the Caney are now? I haven't decided if I am spinning or fly fishing tomorrow. Might just take both and when the generation gets going good switch to spinning with rapala minnow for the big boys.

I don't know what they are called but someone gave me a few of their "go to" flies for the Caney not long ago.

I can run a few of them up to you if you want them.

Just a few though. ;)

You could always just use a hook and a night crawler. :D

I am still watching the weather before I decide if I am going or not.
They are calling for 80% rain for Saturday. :(

Hey, I am not any kind of purist. I will fish with a worm or whatever it takes sometimes to catch one. Sometimes I have been over at the White and it was running nearly muddy and that was the only thing you catch them on.
One of the best baits is craw dad tails. Hint hint- shrimp

Re: Caney Flies ? Trip update!

Well, got here and everything looking good. Put in at Happy Hollow and head up river.
See turkey's at Happy Hollow, then see doe and young ones in the edge of river, then see fish truck stocking. Bound to be an alright day.

Quarter nine, hear the horn blow .yep she is coming. 9:50 see water start to rise and I am above the island where big power lines cross the river. Okay it should start getting good now. Fish biting. 10:10 uh-oh -- Thunder and turning black. Time to maybe paddle like LL back down river. Have to throw a few times going down . Yep fish are turned on to gold rapala. Wind blowing , thunder and then rain. Get to Happy and get out and loaded up. 11 or so sun is shining. Go figure. Eat lunch watching water come up , 11:30 thunder again to the south and appearing to go around.
Well I guess should have put in further downriver and had more low water but I was hoping the storms would hold till in the afternoon.don't think I want to be out there in the thunder and lightening, high water is not too bad.

Except for I had an appt. with a rather large brown( maybe 6-8lb) that I had in my hands three times and then wound up with a tribble hook stuck in my arm while fighting the full flow of the 5200cu ft with the kayak. That was a year or two ago.
Oh well, maybe another day. It is always an adventure.
And thanks scn. Get your calendar and pole ready for a trip to the White.
