What calls or sounds I should say work best this time of year? I have an e caller but may be looking into buying some hand calls. Any thoughts.

Im no expert, but have called and killed several. IMO any call works fine all year round, only time i really use a certain time is when pups first hit the ground i use a pup distress sound. But with that being said i end every set with the pup distress call, you will be suprised at how many sets you will call and see nothing and then hit the pup distrees and one will come charging in.

Cool. How long does the breeding season last? Is it still going on or over already. I know several weeks ago I was seeing a lot of post about male/female doubles killed and I killed a male and female traveling together as well.

From what i have read it comes late jan to late march, the female is in 2to5 days and gestation is 60-63 days. Reason you see a pair is cause once they pick each other they stay together for years. Of course it may happen as early as first of jan, this is just a refernce to somewhat go by. It also changes like deer with your location.

Reason i mentioned the pup distress is because they are very territorial. Lot of times using that call they will come in directly to the sound not paying attention to the wind because they are furious another dog is in their area.

that is the reason i end every set with this call.

distress calls work best right now as pairing as the first females will not enter heat for at least a month. open reed calls will give you the best sound and pitch variability.
