I wanted to share with y'all what happened this afternoon while trying to call in a coyote with the JS preymaster 3. I had the sound "red shafted flicker" turned on when in comes this half grown red tail hawk. He dove at my decoy (guinea hen feathers tied with thread to a carbon arrow) several times before lighting right above me. I snuck my camera out of my fanny pack and snapped this shot. Looking staight up at him. He's in the center of the pic:
He's looking at the guinea feather. I think I heard his stomach growling. :D
The next episode happened at my last set up of the evening. I was in some open woods facing a cut over pines. I was intently scanning the terrain when all of a sudden I heard metallic tinkling sounds. I jerked my head back around to the direction of my speaker (50 feet out, 5 feet up in a sapling) and there was a big red tail trying to get a grip on the speaker with his feet!!!! I was using the "baby cottontail" sound. I tried to grab my camera for a pic, but I was slow on the draw!
I didn't see a coyote this evening, but it wasn't an uneventful hunt.
