With my boy getting hooked after killing his bird. He's wanting to get a couple calls.
I have a lunch box call on order. But looking for a decent pot call that won't break the bank. Easy to run.

Possible some mouth calls as well.

Recommendations?
 
A ton of options out there. Production calls will be hit or miss. Especially on the mouth calls. It would be prudent to help him find out which side his channel of air is on, then find calls to fit (or better yet, start making them yourself)

Wendell Rye (Lights out calls) are wonderful sounding calls and many of them can be had for a decent price. I would suggest slate for starting out since they are so easy to run.

Forgot about him! I'll have to see if I can find any!! I'd love to have a couple of his calls.
 
I would think a 2 reed call would be the easiest to blow. Just need one that fits in his palate, so may have to experiment trimming the tape.

For the pots, any one will be fine if the surface and striker are roughed up a bit and kept dry.

Doesn't take much practice, but it does take some. He needs to commit to practicing with both to develop any semblance of proficiency.

Many call makers offer small framed mouth calls if that's a necessity. You can get a really nice production pot call for $70 or so. I like Houndstooth mouth calls. His pot calls look nice.
 
Try Gooserbat for pot calls and mouth calls. He is a very nice guy and will be willing to help with recommendations.
 
i started with a Lynch's World Champion box call. i'm on my fourth one now. it and "raspy old hen" diaphragm calls are about all i even carry now. if there is an easier to use turkey call than a box to use, i aint run across it. push-button maybe, but they are inconsistent.

He's a great guy and I do like his pots. But his mouth calls are the most oddly shapped calls 😁 FIrst time I put one in I almost gagged and I've been using mouth calls for 35+ years.
