Don't matter it will take 10 years to rebuild the football program past a joke now.
Replacing the OC and whoever is supposed to teach them how to tackle would probably help more than a head coach.
New AD that isn't scared to win a game would help too.

Butch has worn out his welcome. He has helped the team to a certain extent but he has reached his climax and has nothing left to give. Time to move on.

Jone's recruiting classes have been rated very high. What do they need to rebuild?

The OC called his 4th game.

DC is highly rated. Everyone praised the hire.

AD was hired in February.

Right now the team sits at 3-1 with a lot of games left to play. Ask LSU how firing a coach early in the season works out.

When Butch came into the program what 5 years ago I think it was? All my buddies who are UT fans were just all over him, which I'm not going to say is bad he should've been supported. But them along with all the other TN fans I personally know over hyped him and the team automatically were on their way to a NC that next year. I told them it'll never happen with Butch. They lived off the one comment he made which was "TN was his dream job" and every year are on their way to a NC. I tell them every year they are freaking crazy. In Butch's defense though no one else is going to make that program a NC team in the next decade. I would like to see it happen even though I would never root for them but would like to see it happen for the program. I know that sounds weird doesn't it? But at the end of the day Butch sucks and will leave it in shambles for the next guy.

No, not at all :? :D !

Even the ardent "hater" can't deny that the program is MUCH better now than when he arrived. So, when a change is made it will be MUCH more attractive. Truth be told it wouldn't have taken much the past two years to have been in Atlanta and even challenged Bama, so a return to the top isn't that far fetched.

Hard to say.

Is there a realistic guy out there who would come in & have the vols in the SEC title game in 2-4 years? Someone who could win 9+ games a year? Maybe....probably not.

More likely they end up with another Dooley or kiffin before another Philip.

But at some point you gotta say screw it we gotta take a chance on a new guy. & I think the vols are almost at that point if CBJ can't get it together.

We can't afford to fire staff and hire the best

Saw somebody supposedly in the know yesterday say that Currie was at the game and got first hand experience of how the BJ tenure was going. According to them, there was boosters with skybox seats that left the game early and gave Currie an ear full on the way out. Also said one of the main contributors for the Neyland rennovations also conveyed his displeasure with the state of the program to Currie. If any of this is remotely true, they cant afford not to fire BJ and try to get the best they can. Anybody watching the broadcast saw the stadium and lack of fans yesterday. I know, noon kickoff, UMASS and all of that but dont be suprised to see more poor attendance later in the season.

Exactly what I said yesterday when someone said couldn't afford to fire him. It will end up costing more in the long run. Fans not showing and mainly BOOSTERS not giving what they would normally. Like u I know it was a noon UMASS KO but still.

and where was all this BIG BAD MONEY when we hired butch and dd?

It was there more than likely. You had Mike Hamilton and Bama Dave heart leading the charge there.

When You start to hear boosters & Big contributors are raising Heck over the coach usually the coach don't have long to show them they wrong till his canned.

If Tennessee gets blown out by Georgia, fire Jones and hire Hoke as interim. Then offer Stoops, Gary Patterson, Bobby Petrino, Kyle Whittingham, Bo Pelini and Mike McIntyre.

I was there yesterday and there were close to 90,000 there. It was hot and a lot of people left, but there were there. The game did suck, and it was poor play.

Anger has given way to apathy here at my house. Nothing would make me happier than to see him turn it around....but I don't see that happening.

If Butch's serious lack of game day coaching skills doesn't get him fired, apathy will. Apathy equals empty seats.

***Not my words, but from someone who supposedly is an "insider"***

Butch - Let's discuss a bit of this backstory real quick.

We went after Gundy,a big-time hire. We had a verbal commitment from Strong who was considered the no.1 coaching candidate on the market at the time. So the leadership tried to get the best coaches available and was turned down. So we landed with Butch who was a slightly above average coach. We wont get on the pro's and con's of Butch here, it will be discussed ad nauseam on here over the coming weeks.

So why did people turn us down this time? To the point, it was because we had a TERRIBLE roster. That's it, Strong obviously coveted the job enough to commit to the job before changing his mind.. Hiring Butch was a by-product of the bad circumstances TN found itself in due to the incompetent of hiring of Dooley. Plain and simple, the top coaching prospect in the country was all but coming and walked because of the terrible state of TN football at that point in time. Can we blame any coaches for this? They generally get 1 shot at the big-times, why would they want to take a flier on TN right then when the deck was stacked against them? That would be a bad career move, honestly would you leave a good position to go work for a bad company for a bump in pay when you're getting phone calls from other suitors as well? So we had to go get a guy who would take the job because it would be an opportunity he otherwise likely wouldn't get and sincerely hope he could pull it off, enter Butch Jones. This sequence can't be used to value what the TN job is worth in the bigger picture, especially not right now.

As a side note, it should be recognized that Butch is being judged by not achieving the goals his own success has created. He was charged with rebuilding the roster and making TN competitive again, we all knew going in that even if he couldn't win big if he could at least get us back go competitive then he would be considered a success. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. So please, let's not just kick the guy on the way out the door if that is what happens. He has done TN a huge service, yes paid well for it, but he took us off like support.
