lock wins/toss up/doubtful
5-3-4

what you got?

The only doubtfull is probably bama, but crazy things happen between the two. Remember it too them to block a field goal at bama with Kiffins team. Bama won title that year. Toss up is georgia, arkansas

so you are saying 9,10 or 11 wins for vols next year
9 wins is Not unrealistic at all??? If its 9-3 and a bowl loss or 8-4 and a bowl win to make it a 9 win season.

I think most SEC/college football experts would take that bet.

So who if not Vols? Who else has best defensive front, ours are ranked top in the conference, proven qb under pressure, 2 5 star running backs, secondary that can match anyone else in sec, our kicker kicked a 56 yder in orange and white, so who do you pic?

If you are a Vol fan, no way 8-5 can be acceptable. That means losses to Oklahoma, Georgia, and Arkansas at home and Florida in Gainesville (I put 'Bama as a lock to lose for the Vols). And Missouri on the road? You aren't winning the East with losses to Georgia and Florida. For all the hype about Butch, and if the freshmen and sophomores are as talented as everyone says, they have to beat at least three of those four and Missouri on the road.

I'm a Vol fan and with what we've had to put up with the past few years 8-5 would be very acceptable to me. I predict and will be happy at 7-6, anything better will be icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. I'm hesitant to predict them 9 wins as they're still young and as we saw last year, even with a deep receiver pool things happen.

I'm actually upbeat vs GA and FL. We've had our chances the last several years with an inferior team. Especially vs GA, talent wise they've been much better and but for about 3 plays at the end of the game each of the last few years TN would have won.

Seven wins may be too low with the improvements this team will have, but to my wife's dismay I'm a pessimist at heart.

Overall, they'll be a much better team if just the o-line steps up. They were so close in several games last year and if the o-line can get things going getting a few extra first downs and keeping the other team off the field as much as possible as well as giving the defense a breather. The defense has been very good over the years...in the first half, it's been in the second half that the better teams have pulled away (AL, OK, etc.) and that all goes back to the offense (read o-line) going 3-and-out way to much.

Spot on about the oline. A mistake here or there can stall a drive, create a turnover, or worst case get Dobbs injured. They don't even have to be great, just solid.

The OK game will tell us a lot. UF doesn't concern me. We should win that one by two TDs. Except for a Dobbs injury if we lose that one Butch should be fired on the spot!

That is a very reasonable and rational viewpoint.

I'm not a Vol fan, but maybe I'm being swayed by all the hype and Butch love. When all that's been won are recruiting battles, it's easy to get caught up in all of that. On the other thread, mtn cur made a very good point about Bielema and Arkansas in his year 2. Vol fans are sounding like Obama supporters blaming George Bush.

Here's why I think 8-5 should be unacceptable. Again, this is measured against all the hype and Butch love that we see on this board almost everyday. 8-5 means either 7-5 regular season and bowl victory (i.e., a one win improvement :bore: ) or 8-4 and a bowl loss (depending on the bowl and the team beating the Vols, that might be an acceptable 8-5 season). I first ask, how in the world do the Vols win the SEC East by going either 7-5 or 8-4 in the regular season? Second, let's just assume that 5 of those victories are the so-called locks - Bowling Green (Vol players better not be sleeping on the Falcons after hearing how great they are all year), Western Carolina, North Texas State (the annual SEC November game against an FCS opponent that doesn't count towards bowl eligibility), Kentucky (in Lexington and they are also getting better), and Vandy (I assume a win only because it's in Knoxville, as Vandy was horrible last year, the Vols only managed a one touchdown win, and Vandy also should be improved). A 7 or 8 win regular season means a losing record against the other 7 teams: Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Missouri. The Vols could more easily go 1-6 than 6-1 against these 7, but I think they have to go at least 4-3 for the season to be considered a success. Otherwise, Butch isn't making any progress versus the teams against which his Vol team should be measured if the hype is at all true. They should beat SC in Knoxville, but other than that, even UF in Gainesville is no lock. No way.

Tenn will win 8 or 9 and possibly more. Who knows? Then there is the SEC Championship and a bowl game. Lot of new QB's in the SEC also a lot of drafted players.
Alabama with Coker? UF new QB--no oline, should be an easy win for the Vols.Vols have one of the best RB combos in the sec and a good QB. And no I don't want to bet $100 on this, not yet anyway. You can never account for injuries, way to early. :stir: :stir: :stir: :tu:

We are all guessing right now. I get that. Whether one is an Ohio St, Florida St, Alabama, Tennessee, Vandy, etc. fan, we are all just guessing. I wouldn't take a bet that Ohio St will repeat. I think our chances are as good as anyone's, but that's hard to do and rarely is done. I just find it inconsistent to read and see all the Vol hype posted in this forum and then one Vol fan after another says how a 7 or 8 win season would be acceptable. Obviously, not all Vol fans are beating the hype drum or ok with a 7 or 8 win season.

I thought Braxton Miller was going to Bama? That's what Paul Finebaum said. Braxton graduates this coming Sunday by the way.
