Does this make sense? I went out to the range this weekend to make sure my muzzle loader was still sighted in.

Gun: CVA Optima Pro 26" barrel
Powder: 100 grains of Pyrodex Pellets
Bullet: 250 grain Powerbelt AeroLite AeroTip

I shot 3 rounds at 50 yards and all 3 were dead center & touching each other.

I moved back to 100 yards and shot 4 rounds, I had 2 rounds at 1.5 inches high(center) and 2 rounds at 2.5 inches high(center).

I don't recall at what yardage (50, 100, 150) I sighted in years ago but the trajectory just doesn't make sense to me, unless I am missing something. I figured I would be low at 100 if I am dead center at 50.

I didn't make any adjustments but was looking for advice / opinion on where the bullet would impact at 150 yards and if the trajectory of the bullet seemed correct.

Thanks,

JP

your data sounds right. your scope is above your barrel. bullet rises to meet level of scope and above, then starts to drop.

HL,

Thanks for the info - I do have see thru's on my muzzle loader.

I believe I am good to go 0 - 100 yards. I guess out past that I don't know because the range I was shooting on only goes out to 100 yards.

Perhaps after the season I will change my scope rings and sight in at 100 again.

HatchieLuvr is right. There is probably nothing wrong with your gun. Especially since you forgot where you last zeroed it in. It sounds like your bullet is still rising at 100 yrds, which is good ! Move back until you find where your bullet drops 2 1/2 to 3" below bullseye. Lets say for example, at 175 yrds its 3" below bullseye. Now you know that from 0 to 175 yards, your in the kill zone. You wont have to aim high or low, just center. Since a deer has an 8 to 10" kill zone, your good.

A great website is GunsandShootingOnline. Valuable info on muzzleloaders, bullets, rifles, etc. It will school you, as it did me !
