I'm looking at buying another gun. And it's for Ohio deer hunting. What would you choose and why. I was thinking of using a 444 mag for hunting. Seems like you can shoot it to a good ways. I have been using a 12 gauge up there and felt comfortable out to 125 to 150 yards. I'm looking for something and don't really know which way to look

I don't think you'd get any more range with the 444. I'd like to have one for close hunting but not long shots. Someone with more knowledge should be able to help you.

460 S&W is an easy 200 yd gun and has more energy than a 30-06 at the muzzle with a 200 gr FTX bullet. My Encore shoots a 200 gr bullet at 2800+ fps. It will flat out deflate any deer.

my brother has an original Sharps made 45-70 he carried to South Dakota and killed a Buffalo that its hide squared 72 ft,,he shoots a boolit he pours himself that weighs 480 something grs I believe,,with the Soulle sight and a good rangefinder hits are very reliable to insane distances,,his loads are very close to 458 Win mag,I would think the 45-110 would be even more and shoot flatter and farther if you could get the bullet done right,,

How's the recoil on the gun. Shooting it out of the TC. And where did you find the barrel

The recoil is not too bad, about like a 300 WSM. I had to put a Simms slip on recoil pad on it because the length of pull of the Encore butt stock is too short. You can find the barrel online. Make sure it's the 20" barrel.

That's why he is our own MR. BIG! Looks like his brother can also carry that title! Did you boys ever just play baseball or just learn to shoot these gosh darn huge caliber rifles as kids?

Thanks mr. Big

factory ammo is a hot load

i will have one one day

Yes very true, if I shoot factory my action will fly open and stock is too short for sure.

DA or Moderl70Man, When you reload, have you use 250 to 300 gr bullets? How did you like shooting the heavier loads?

The pic DA posted is the deer he killed with my 460 S&W Mag Encore. When I got the barrel I got 10 boxes of Hornady 200 gr FTX ammo with the barrel. I haven't used any other ammo in it yet. My action has not come open when shooting. When I reload for it I will try the 200 grain Barnes.

Realize that it is a 460 S&W and so is mine. I cannot use factory because they are too hot. With hand loads I do not have the same issue.
