Bullet performance ?

my 260 Rem has been a companion for many years and has put made killing shots feom 10 feet to 400 yards with bullets from 100 -129 grs.
From my personal experiance I have said many times that it was a 300 yard gun.
Now, bear in mind this statement was derived with 100 and 120 gr BTS shooting deer at and past 300 yds.
Now for the past few years I have been using Hornady 129 SPs with great resuts with kills to 243 yards .
Now for the question.
I shot a doe this weekend at around 160 yards. I recoverd the bullet and it was 73 gr out of 129 gr
With this information would the bullet perform better at longer distances when it slowed down and retained more weight?

IMO Possible it might do better further out on retaining weight,but would still expand and penerate enough to do the job from any shot angle . it is a fine line on where these meet and in gerenal the lower the velocity the less expansion one will get now how much peneration would get is is the ?

I would like to know the shot angle on the Doe. A boradside I would have some ??? on useing it a 1/4 or frontal shot less so.

I did fire some Hornadys 8mm/.323 150gr SPT with a max capacity load of Trailboss thinking this should be around 1300 fps + or - they penerated fine but barely opened,put that out for considersation.
