Bullet performance questioned........

Last sat I took a small doe filling my doe tag.Not a big deal in itself but we are more particular around here
.308 Winchester
130 gr Speer HP @ around 28-2900fps at 170 give or take through rather dense hardwood.Bullet did not strike anything in flight and at a bit of surprise to myself hit dead on where I had the cross hairs.Longest shot to date ever on a beasty.
I have all pics and may post them if there is interest,but I am still thinking this individual bullet did not live up to its rep and past performance on deer at shorter ranges and am looking for some input.
Placement was 4" behind right shoulder impacting center of a rib bone going in.
Exit is just behind left shoulder at a slight angle impacting another rib on exit.Exit hole maybe 2" at most.Heavy bruising on entrance side with bruising around exit and some shoulder bruising.Deer ran 35 yrds after shot and field dress showed it had lost the top half of her little heart to boot.I think she should have dropped right there like the other 2 deer I have taken with this load.Any input ?

The closer range and increased velocity had much more dramatic results due to the hydrostatic shock that was created. Longer range = lower velocities and less initial shock.

Remingtons usually drop them right in their tracks you know. Looks like good performance to me. Sometimes things just don't add up. Next may be a large buck and he'll drop in his tracks. Who knows?

I wouldn't worry about the performance of the bullet. It did what it was supposed to do.

yeah its got a 5" shade.
I thought about the range compared to the other deer taken but didnt think it was that much further to do what Tiny says but its got to be the reason - loss of velocity just enough to take what juice it had to not drop her in her tracks.
I was leanin that way,just didnt realy think it far enough to do it.
Here is a pic from where I was sitting to the other side of the hollow.Deer was around center of the pic bout halfway up the other side.

All jokin aside I could not have made the shot withought this rig.A.O was at 200 and it was on 20x when I touched it off - after making adjustments while trying to keep her in sight AND tell the boys to be quiet - I had two of the boys with me at the time only one of them could see the deer on the other side of the hollow .They were hootin and hollering when I shot and got a big kick out of seeing it all happen.

on a side note...the rifle holds 4 #1 and leading off was the 130 gr Speer HP.....only because I have tested them on paper and in the field BUT - jes cause I am what I am I reckon his 3 buddies waiting for a GO signal were the 125 TNT's and by book spec should be lopin along at 2900 and change.I didnt lead off with them because I havent fired the first one yet from the rifle and didnt want to go afield with anything untested.But once the 130's are gone the plan will be to have them tested up and more than likely stoked to all Speer says they can "safely" fly at without fear of "premature detonation" BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA !!!
They will be field tested on yotes and paper leading up to next fall.
