As I didn't draw any UT tags this year, and have my vacation time already set aside, has anyone hunted buffalo on a game farm?
(It will be a minimum of another 10 years before I "might" have a chance at a wild buffalo in UT.)
I don't want a high fence, go shoot the tame animal hunt. Ideally, it would be on one of the Indian Reservations with 50,000 acres, but over the years I haven't made any of those draws either.
MO and SD seem to have a lot of large ranches with herds.
Anyone ever done this?

No but I would as the meat is great & if you can afford it id do it with out any problems. I have no problem gathering my own food & that's what you would be doing. A wild hunt would be more difficult more than likely & take longer to draw.

I have not, but that is one hunt I would not blink twice about paying to go on if I had the $$. Buffalo is delicious.

Thanks Poser. I don't see buffalo on their website, but will drop them an email.
It would be nice to be able to drive to a hunting location so I can easily transport the meat back in my truck. 1,000 animal is a lot of meat!
Besides waiting another 10 years for a UT tag, it will be put on up there in age and that is a tough, tough hunt in the Henry Mountains.

I've been applying for years now in the lottery for a Custer SD buffalo permit. With the recent restructuring of the draw to allocate more tags for residents I feel I have a better chance of drawing a Tennessee Elk tag.

I have a bison hunt scheduled for this winter in South Dakota. Free ranging area but a private ranch. Mature bull costs $4,000 and that includes two days room and board on the ranch as well as skinning and quartering and getting the meat back to the ranch house where it will be chilled. Seems like a win win situation as I am betting I will end up with meat valued more than the hunt plus a nice buffalo hide.
And you can't put a price on the experience of killing one on the plains. My current plans on for a January hunt so I will update after the hunt is over.

Very cool dude, I'm sure you will have a blast.

You driving out there?

Yes, currently live in Colorado but we are retiring in less than 20 months and building a house on our property in Crossville.
And I am totally dreading the building process!

Ogala Sioux Indian Reservation (Pine Ridge) sells hunts to nontribal members for $3000-$5000 last time I was out there. guide, processing, and making a nice coat out of the hide was included with the price.

With the recent increases in beef prices, a buffalo hunt has become more reasonable. (Although I still have no desire to kill one :) )

While out there in June on our mission trip, buffalo was the only animal I missed seeing on the reservation. Sure would like to make it out there to hunt. The place has a beauty that is hard to describe. Would put it near the top of my bucket list.

They pick hunters by lottery.
Still waiting...
