Looking at buying a new turkey gun. Am currently looking at the Rem 870 Express Super Mag. Anyone have any experience with this gun? Also anyone using any other affordable options? Lastly, what chokes are y'all using. Thanks for any input.

Mossberg 835 is what I used for years with a Primos Jelly Head choke. Killed the heck out of them. Kicks like a mule though. 3.5" Ulti-Mag.

Rem 870 is always a good gun though

My rainy day gun is an Escort 20 gauge with Primos tight wad choke. I think the gun and choke fit the description. Shooting LongBeard

This gun has been my primary duck gun for about 3 years now. I really like it a lot

My wife runs a 20ga 870 with Carlson .575. Jam up little gun. I bought a used mossberg maverick 88 and a HS strut undertaker choke also in 20ga. I have about $180 total in mine hers ran me about $325 if I remember correctly. Both are killers.

A guy is selling one over on the classifieds board with a Jelly Head choke for $400. Just posted on the 13th and still looks available. Nice looking gun!

I lil advice here from someone who shot an 870 for turkeys since I have been hunting them. Take the time and visit the pawn shops and gun shops where the ya crept trade in guns. Find an older model 870 with the J Hook lockable safety in 26 in barrel. You can find them for 250-300 all day long. Maybe even cheaper. I'm sitting here looking at three different ones at a local pawn shop.

Anyway, get that gun and then order you a Remington Xtra Full Turkey Chile on eBay or Amazon. That choke with a #5 lead is an unreal pattern. I'm talking UNREAL. I have literally taken birds head off at 25 yrds.

The newer 870 are yugo. They aren't the same quality as the older guns. I retired mine this yr for a lighter 20g Franchi, but wouldn't be a thing for me to pull her back out. I had mine dipped in Bottomland and she is sharp looking!!

I bought my kids 20g youth 870 for $180 at a gun show 2 seasons ago. It already came with a .575 undertaker choke.

I was so impressed with it after using it myself 2 seasons ago I bought myself a brand new one in full camo at Walmart on sale for $235. I had it drilled and tapped and installed a picatinny rail and vortex venom reflex sight. I went with the Sumtoy 562 choke on mine. The accessories cost more than the gun itself :) Those 2 cheap guns have killed 18 birds so far the past 3 seasons between me and my kids.

I think I've narrowed it down to a stoeger p3000 and a 870 express (not the super mag) can get black synethic stock on the stoeger or a wood synthetic on the 870. Which one would y'all go with?

Not that I am bias (see my user name). I would go with the Remington 870. My daughter has a 20 gauge one that is a turkey killing machine.

I have a Mossberg 535 and 835 and they both shoot lights out with a Indian Creek choke and 3" Winchester Longbeards XR. This is with my 835 at 45 yards. Shot the bottom target made a slight adjustment on my red dot to the right and shot again at the top target.

I know a lot of guys are starting to go the 20 gauge now due to less recoil, lighter to carry. Most of the ones I know are running TSS through them. Just can't justify the price for TSS when I get patterns like these with Longbeards. Best of luck on your search and stay safe.

Ended up picking up the express 870 supermag. Put a sling on last night. Got a tightwad choke on the way. Will probably upgrade chokes next year. In the woods with it now. Stepped about 100 yds off the main road on and trail. Sat down so not to go to far in and get busted. Sat down and the woods exploded smh. Guess I'll leave him alone for a few days and try my luck on him later! New guns don't seem to change my luck ha.
