I over seeded my dieing winter rye with buckwheat - it's blooming now and the deer are tearing it up - they have been in the plot every morning and evening - (Unlike when it was just a small amount of clover and the WR) -

Question is - what's next? I can I overseed the buckwheat with clover this fall for the spring - or should something else go in for the winter - rye again maybe? it did real well last time - but the deer showed little interest in it -

I did see my first batchlor group in the plot on Sat morning - let by a nice main frame 8pt -

Just to add - I can plow or turn this soil - just toss seed -

Rye is a great soil builder and deer will eat it. However, they prefer wheat and oats. Rye is the hardiest of the three and can be planted later as a result. I use it on new plots that need a boost in organic matter and plow it in as green manure the following spring in April or May.

Your buckwheat will reseed again but not come up as thick as the original plot. Once its spent though you need to rework the seed bed before planting another product.

If the plot is hard to work up you would be better off with seed that germinates well with light ground work or sometimes just by spraying it with roundup/ mow it down/ throw your seed. Winter wheat is the best choice in this situation for the grain, crimson clover is the best annual clover, and dwarf essex rape is awesome in this situation.
