Well, I am a charter member this year. Both tags in my pocket. Tough year for me.

Good to get out chasing them. Hopefully have another shot next year. Not sure I would have done anything different.

I've had it happen numerous times to me but once I get one on the ground I completely forget about the previous season

That's the way it is more seasons than not for me, but like you it's probably by choice to some degree. In the last five years I've used one out of my 13 state buck tags and have let many more bonus buck tags go unfilled. Maybe next year. :)

Same here. 2 does and a whoops button buck. Meat in the freezer at least so not too bummed.

I killed 13 consecutive does (1-3 each season) before killing 2 bucks this year. It can turn around on opening next year though.

It happens to me more often than not but by choice. The first few seasons it was a bummer but I've come to realize that when you get picky it happens. Those that aren't and are happy to shoot any buck should be thankful there are picky hunters around. I know I've spared and shared a bunch of bucks over the years.

I was in the club last year but killed a decent 8-pt this year. Been trying to shoot a doe or two and all I'm seeing is young bucks. This weekend I saw 10 deer and they were anywhere between a button buck and young 8-pt. Could not buy a doe.

I'm there with you for the first time in 6 years. Took two does for meat so the freezer is not empty. Also blew a shot and lost a nice buck.

The most important thing is that I had more opportunities to hunt this year and I learned a lot. It's opened up some new options for next season so while I end this one dissapointed (more than anything that I didn't get the third deer to fill the freezer) I'm excited for next year.

Now to get the goat ready for catfish and the lake. Oh wait, that'll be a few months still.

I haven't shot a buck in three or four years. I have been taking my two oldest son's hunting. We passed on some spikes and 6 pointers. Killed 5 does for the freezer though. Going to get back after them this weekend on the last juvy. We have all been battling colds for the last week, and missed hunting this past weekend.

I couldn't kill enough bucks for the next 10 years to fill all my empty buck tags. Killed 2 doe this year and am looking forward to next year.

In Ohio, same... tag soup!
But in Virginia, I killed three does. Also, arrowed a nice 10 point that I never found. :( I looked that evening. Then the next morning. Then called in a dog... nothing! I am absolutely sure the buck died, but I could not find it. I hate that about bow hunting.

Also, I had three other great opportunities on bucks in TN this year. I had a 14 point monster at 50 yards but could not shoot through the brush, my bow in hand. Then a nice heavy beamed 8 point I missed with rifle at 325 yards (four times). Then missed again at 140 yds. I then went and re-sighted my rifle: it was off 4.5" left and 4" high at 100 yds.
Last, I had a "big buck" at 55 yards in the foggy/rain, and could not get my scope clear enough to see. I did not enjoy watching him walk away!!!

Plinker, I feel for you. Please go buy a new scope. If you threw it down and ran over it, it shouldn't be off that much unless it was broke. It will let you down again. Sounds like it fogged up too. Time for a new one!

I've been buck-less about half the years since I started deer hunting again in 2002, so I'm no stranger to that feeling at season's end. I've had years where I hardly even saw a buck and others where I just didn't see anything I wanted to shoot. And don't anybody mistake that to mean I'm a trophy hunter. I'll kill any buck even close to 100" that I can without hesitation but I don't want to kill the ittby bitty ones. :) At times I've been known to drop the hammer on them too however!

I seem to get less condensation on my scopes when using scope covers and by leaving my rifle in my truck in between hunts.

I was buckless in 13,14,15 and 16. Got two big ones this year. It is not unusual for me to have these long dry spells. Just no encounters with shooters.

That is crazy! Those are great scopes too! I wouldn't have any faith in it though unless I knew something had hit it hard or the bases were loose.

I do plan to make several changes to my rifle set-up this year between seasons. My bow and mzl I am very pleased with, not so much the rifle.
Mike Belt: I do leave my gun in the truck for that very reason but I do not use scope covers. I did years ago and got away from it. I probably will go back to it. In the picture above, did you notice my "piece of paper towel" in the front of the scope. Trying to keep moisture down after the encounter noted above. It was probably just the day, with fog and rain, everything, including me, was wet.

Yes I saw it and immediately knew why it was there. If it's not raining I almost never have a problem with my scope fogging. I do with my binocs especially when it's really cold outside. Something I've never really seen mentioned much is sunlight and scopes. Not facing into the sun because that's pretty obvious. Twice I've missed taking a shot on a good buck because the rising sun dead behind me and over my shoulder was in the perfect position to hit the back end of my scope causing a glare in the scope and preventing the shot.

Tagged out last season on doe and buck in unit A & B. Only put a doe down this season. Got her opening day of smokepole season.

First year I've been buckless since 1995! I've killed 1-4 bucks a year for the past 7 seasons. I ate 4 tags this year (2 Tn/2 VA). Barley even seen a buck or doe this year. Just happy to get a doe in mid Dec to keep my kill streak for the past 22 years going!
