So Saturday morning I hunted at Fall Creek Falls with my bow. Long story short I shot the buck of a lifetime at 25 yards quartered away a little. Made a perfect shot. I get down and go help my buddy drag his buck out that was shot earlier in the morning. This takes a couple hours. So I start to track mine and 200 yards later I walk up on him and I just couldn't believe what I saw. Someone had cut his head off and left him laying!!! I couldn't believe this. Why would someone do this?? I am just completely dumbfounded. I am still just sick over it. I find it hard to believe that someone would do this. If a hunter walked up on a big buck that had been laying a while and wasting away I get it. But why a buck that had just recently expired? Takes a sorry person to do this.

This happened to a fella here in my county in early archery! Shot a great buck and it died next to a state hwy, when he got to it the head was gone! Hate that for you, sorry individual!

Man that pisses me off and I didn't even shoot it. I hate it for you man. Wish there was some way you could get your buck.

I'm sorry and disgusted to read this. The hunting community has its fair share of thugs, hoodlums and scum bags, that's for sure. I would have definitely reported it.

That's sorry on two levels. First stealing someone else's trophy and second leaving the meat to waist. Can only hope karma catches up with them in a big way.

Wow, that's terrible :( Definetly tell the rangers. They keep an ear to the ground and the rack may show up. At least you got the meat. But still stinks to have to burn a tag on an animal and not get the rack.

I HATE A THIEF AND A DEER THIEF IS JUST PLAIN SORRY :bash: What good is it to whomever PISSES me off also. Is this what hunting has become people steeling equipment and now your deer.

I thought about talking to the park rangers but figured it wouldn't do any good.

I'm sorry this happened. But not reporting it certainly did something "good" for the thief.

That's the most low down scum bag move I could imagine...I hate to hear you lost an incredible buck like that...

Would you know his rack if you saw it?

Do you think someone walked up on it and thought it was a lost one that had been there a while? I know with it as warm as it is the flies and yellow jackets will absolutely swarm a dead deer in an hour or so. I usually track them as soon as I can and leave an old orange vest or hat on them if I have to leave them. That way anyone who stumbles by will know its being recovered. It might not have helped in your situation thou since there is a lot of scum bags out there who will do anything for even a small rack!

Wait... you shot the buck of a lifetime and waited 2 hours to track it? On Public Land?
Exactly my thoughts. I will agree that it's a low thing to do but you were on public land crawling with Elmer's who have no respect for anyone or anything.

If you report it and they could figure out who did it is there anything you could actually do about it? Is it actually illegal or could there be any kind of fines or anything for the person who took the head?

Did you take the meat

This...

So buck of a lifetime shot on public land, stolen and decapitated after leaving it for 2 hours. No pics and you didn't report it?
You can choose to believe me or not. I really don't care if you do or not. I know what happened and so does the guy that was hunting with me.
