Buck has been found

Shot him at 7:34 am yesterday and man he ran farther than I would expect.

Geezer came out to help track this morning. We split up where I found the last blood and a while later he called me and had crashed through the thickest of the briars and made it down to the river where he found my deer right by the water.

Going with mudbone to cut the rack off and check the backstraps and see if they are still fresh- not taking any other meat, the shot went in high, but came out very low and clipped the gut. I don't want to cut it open but I'm guessing it was a lung, liver and gut shot. More pics later, here is one

Heres a pic I snapped on my way out! I just went on a hunch towards the river and lucked up and found what looked like a dragging track headed towards the water stayed on it and you could tell something was falling and stirring up the leaves heavy. Finally found a good area of blood and it led at an angle down to water and thats where he layed. Im glad I could help him out. This was my first time meeting catman and hes a good fella and hard hunter to say the least. I do hope that he doesnt give up next time and that going to water is ALWAYS worth looking into!!!!

If you were a little high, you get exactly that kind of sign. Lots of blood on the arrow and a good blood trail for s short distance. After that, they just go back to eating.

I agree that the meat could still be good. You were blessed by chilly temperatures during the day. What was the peak temperature yesterday where you are?

I'd open him up in a flash and drag him through that water to rinse the meat quick and see what you have to work with.

Yall old timers are dead on! My grandfather taught me the art of hunting and tracking andfor some reason injured deer and water are burnt into my brain!!!
Catman has probably the most thickest, gnarliest, over grown dead gum place Ive ever been to. Matter a fact I think im gonna relax here for a bit and lick my wounds cause them briars ate me alive and I got them stick tights all over my clothes!!!! The ones on my pants scraped right off with a knife but the ones in my fleece are buried! It was well worth it though, when I seen Ole Catman grab his deer. He probably dont even realize the look he made.....Priceless!!!

you are right for sure. The angle was much steeper than I thought and the exit wound very low.

I thought the same thing when I first saw him. No bloating, but the exit hole sure did stink

I didn't discount the possibility at all, in fact I guessed he could have easily died in the thickest crap you could hardly get through. Didn't think he would make it all the way through though.

Yes sir, I definitely learned from this. My inexperience took 7 hours finding nothing and geezer's experience took less than an hour. I think the water source thing will be stuck in my head a lot better now.

Yes he was, but I knew he was thick in the neck and an older deer, so I shot him without hesitation.

Not only was one side broken off but his neck and head had some good scars on them. Now if I can get lucky enough to glimpse the boss of this deer....
