For whatever reason I got to thinking about this the other day and wondered if you had any data on it.

Basically I was wondering, have you ever gathered or seen data that would prove / disprove the "fact" that deer move more at night during a full moon than a "dark" night? Then in turn decreasing daytime movement?

I can answer for him, Ruger. I believe he does have some data and it proves nothing either way. I think he is at deer camp.

When we did the census counts in IA, we found no difference in deer nocturnal movement no matter what the moon phase. Weather was the deciding factor.

The only thing I haven oticed on a full moon is that they may tend to move a little later in the morning and earlier int he afternoon.

From just about ever night-time census I've seen (where data was collected by moon phase), no difference existed in how many deer were out and active at night based on moon phase. In essence, just as many deer were out and feeding at night under a full moon as a new moon. Deer see just fine at night without moonlight.

Would you elaborate a little on that? Which weather conditions either decreased or increased movement (the deer's, not yours :smile:)? Temperature, barometric pressure, precipitation, clear/cloudy, some combination of these and/or other conditions? I'm just curious.
 
the good thing about a full moon is that with the added light, it helps me spotlight a lot more easily and get my crosshairs lined up for a better shot!!

I don't about baro. pressure and all that techie crap. We saw less deer at night when it was storming and snowing and more deer at night when it was way warm. Just simple stuff that makes perfect sense.
