We are hunting a new lease this year. It is around 250 acres in west jackson county. We just found out that on the property next to us they found 14 deer dead last year from possible ehd. The owner of the property that we hunt found several dead deer last year. On our cameras this year we see alot of young bucks and not as many doe. We have seen some deer hunting so far but not alot.Should we becareful about shooting does?
Thanks for any advice you could share.
Me, my son and a friend sat in on your field judging bucs class back in the summer and really enjoyed it.

Glad you like the aging seminar.

If your area experienced significant EHD die-off last year--and it sounds like your area did--I would probably recommend holding doe harvests to no more than your buck harvest. In essence, if you kill three bucks, kill no more than three does.

You can alway kill no does, but I hate to see sex ratios unbalanced. I would rather have a lower deer density with a balanced sex ratio than a larger density with an unbalanced sex ratio.

Hey Dusty...
My place got hit pretty hard also last year, within a mile of your place...
My cameras have been showing as many bucks as does...Seeing lots of mature bucks on cameras also...
Someone said you got a nice 8 point last saturday after an all day sit on the stand...
Patience always pays off...Congratts!!!

That depends on what people want out of their hunting. QDM isn't for everybody.

Thanks BSK for the good info. Our plan is not to take any small bucs. We are not sure of the other properties around ours. They may shot everything I dont know. We will have to wait and see.

Buckmaster thanks and send me some of those pics id like to see what you have on your side... I might get lost and end up over there if they are big ones.
