My brother killed this 8 point yesterday evening. This was the smaller of two bucks we thought we had a good shot at seeing early season. He came to an oats and brassica food plot around 6:45. He actually left the field when a coyote skirted the edge but showed back up a few minutes later. The shot was just a fuzz under 40 with the deer quartering pretty hard towards him. He hit it in front of the front shoulder and it lodged in the offside shoulder then backed out. Deer barely bled any but didn't even make it 50 yards and piled up. I'm far from an expert on aging but I'm 99% sure the deer was at least 4.5 and think he was very likely 5.5. His body and neck were enormous for the early season around here. I rough guessed/scored him while he was hanging last night and came up with 117-121 depending on beam length.
