The subject comes up here from time to time and I'm not a fan of deer farming/breeding. It's big business here in many parts of TX. I saw this thread on another site and thought some here might be interested to see part of the industry. It's basically the deer version of stud horses, and there's some studs in the pictures. Consider how young the bucks are to have such large headgear.

I have seen a facility on a large TX ranch where whitetail does are bred either naturally in captivity by one of these breeder bucks or more commonly by a veterinarian doing artificial insemination with semen from a breeder buck. I guess the hosts were trying to impress us by showing us the facility, but I was completely turned off by how unnatural it all is. All this for really big antlers. Kind of sad, when you think about it.

Pure South Texas breeders

with the laws changing more and more with high fence/breeders/deer farms AI for deer has been around for years used in many places.

It can be illegal to move live animals, but I don't know if it is
when bringing a straw across state lines.

There is no LEGAL way that semen could be used in whitetail deer breeding in TN.
