Which plug are you asking about too. Some plugs don't need any grease such as the newer CVA QRBP.

older in line Muzzleloader like a cva or Remington. Right now I am using a knight breech grease and I know it is hard to get out. I just read online that lithium grease is better and wonder what all your all thoughts on this subject is. Thanks
 
I use Teflon tape but the best grease i found is about any that contain molybdenum or Slick50 ONE lube. Honda sells a moly paste for motorcycles that is great. Moly can get very messy though and the Honda moly paste is even worse.. Its pretty much as bad as anti seize.
 
Military surplus Garand grease. Use it for choke tube grease and breech plug grease both. I have like 200 small pots of it I bought for like $10 at a gun show a while back.

I use bore butter, anti seize, cva nipple/breech plug grease, marine and car grease and TC's grease. Use em on percussion pistols (1858 army revolver, traditions trapper, and CVA optima pistol), percussion rifles (pyrodex and blackpowder), and TC, CVA, and Knight inlines with same results. Hand tight and clean after shooting = easy hand removal hand tight and wait a day or 2 to clean = a removal tool and a small amount of pressure to break free. Heck even have used vaseline in a pinch. Is one better than another, not really. Some a little more "user friendly", could say that. Short and sweet answer to your question, in my opinion, its all personal preference and anything is alot better than nothing.
 
White plumbers tape.

Works amazing on Nipples as well to seal out moisture and keep them from freezing into the bolster/drum.
