Braided line?

I'm going to try Alabama rig. Do I need braided line ? If so, what pound and does color matter. Don't know anything about braided line.

I use 20lb mono. Works good for me.
As for using braid most use 60-80 lb for that setup. This is one of those cases you'll get a lot of different opinions.

If you're like me and my crew you'll make 10 casts with the A rig and decide life is too dang short to slog away with it. To answer your question I used 30# power pro V8 and it worked fine.

I don't know about Alabama rigs but I use 15# power pro braid with 20# mono at the end. No redfish is safe!

Add… it's also for the oysters and spartina grass . It's tough.

I don't use braid on an A rig. I use 17 or 20 lb fluoro or mono.

You definitely need the right rod for it.

I tried braid in the 90s-just never liked it.
I could see using it frog fishing grass

i hate the "super lines". folks pull brush piles and stake beds apart instead of the line breaking. get that crap wrapped into your outboard and it's real problems. if you're that terrified of losing a dang fish, maybe try tennis or something.

Trying to use braid and the wind blowing some has caused me some grief, going to pull it off my freshwater rods, I got a A rig in the tackle box but about like casting a brick.

Braid, mono, or fluoro is fine.

Some people claim that braid makes noise coming through the water with heavy lures like a-rigs. Plenty of people use it successfully without any problems.

I only use 20lb fluoro for my a-rigs. Doesn't mean it's the best - it's just what I prefer.

I only used high quality mono. Life is too short for braid
