How do you spool braid on a bait casting reel to keep it from digging in on itself and casting smoothly?

Thanks

I have 50 pound Spider Wire stealth braid on a bait caster that I throw Big wake baits with. Never had an issue and I have 0 backing on it.

I had this issue and got so pissed off I took all the braid off my baitcaster a while ago. Now I'm back on it but I did spool about halfway full with some cheap mono as backing. I have plenty of 30lb braid over it and don't have issues with it. As long as your drag is set right it shouldn't cause the line to dig in. If you ever see that happening make as long of a cast as you can and when you reel back in, pinch the line so it's going on the spool VERY TIGHT. That's the key.

I use a mono backing or some type of tape...electrical or medical then use the power pro slick 8. It works well.

I use power pro on all my trolling equipment, line counters and spinning. I back fill with cheap mono on all my line counter reels to keep the spools full and the counter more accurate. I never have any digging unless I get hung bad enough to break the 17lb fluoro leader I use.
