I am currently in the process of building a mauser 7x57. The gun just came out of the blueing tank yesterday and looks great. I have a E.R. Shaw barrel and the action is a commercial grade 98 (came off of a interarms MarkX.) I am going to order a boyds stock for the gun and was wondering if you guys have any experience with them? Looking at the Classic and Prairie Hunter, also debating on whether to go laminate or walnut. What do you guys think?

I like them but never owned one. Should be nice.
I think it's hard to beat walnut for a classic look on a Mauser. About fifteen years ago I put a Boyd's on a VZ 24 after stripping the existing finish and applying a hand rubbed oil finish.

I have 4 Boyds stocks all laminate and am very pleased. My woodworking skills are negligible so a great fit was important to me. No more than 2 seconds with a Dremel and everything fit very nicely.
For a Mauser you either go classic walnut or off the deep end with a yellow and black or similar laminate combination.

Ive got one on a 10/22 I built. Looks great and feels wonderful.
I had the classic laminate on a Rem.700. Craftmanship was good, dropped right in. Had my smith bed the action. The stock is VERY heavy,41OZ. I didn't get it with checkering so it was slippery,my mistake. For the money I feel its a good product. If weight isn't an issue go for it.
I bought a Boyd laminate and likewise didn't get checkering and regretted it. For the money they can't be beat. I'm right handed but left eye dominate. All my rifles are right handed but I shoot left handed. They sell a stock just for me.
My advice is buy one and get it checkered. I personally like a bit heavier gun.

I've always heard they have long necks for heavier bullets and hard to obtain great accuracy ...
but I have great luck with the 140 accubond and the 140 barnes.

280 - I am huge fan of mausers and always wanted a 7x57. A good friend of mine gave me the barrel and I had a .270 large ring 98 action and decided why not give it a whirl!
