Looking through my picture album the other day and realized I've only killed 6 deer with my bow ever and only 9 with a muzzleloader even though I enjoy hunting with them the most. Guess I just don't know how to scout for those other seasons, anybody else like this.

Never killed one with a bow. Only hunted a few times before with a crossbow and missed twice though.

I've got a few with muzzleoader.

I would liketo get a big one in all three seasons this year.

I'm opposite. Since I killed my first deer with a bow I've killed 29. This is over 7 years. In that same time I've only killed 6 with mzl/gun.

I remember when killing with a bow seemed like a feat that involved great amounts of luck...

Wind, food, funnels and scouting. Same as any weapon just a much smaller margin or error for being off the "x"

12 with a Rifle
8 with a shotgun slug
9 with a muzzleloader

202 with a bow

Kinda like the bow best.

But this year, I think I will hunt with all weapons. Just for fun.

I've almost retired the rifle, I still do muzzleload a few times, but archery has become my love. Something about keeps me going.

I'm the same way. tried bow hunting when I was young, 55lb Bear recurve and hated it. A few years back I got talked into trying it again and haven't looked back. I may never use a gun again, if I score some vension early bow season.

I also took my first turkey this past fall, a head shot at 22 yards.

I'm the opposite. I've only killed 5-8 deer with gun (rifle) when I was a teenager. Don't know how many I've killed with a bow but last year alone I killed 9 with bow (3 bucks and 6 does). I missed 4 others due to arrow deflection and deer jumping the string.

I kill several does with my bow each year, not sure on the total, but then fewer with the guns, cause I get much more selective that time of year, and just loose interest with the does.

This post got me thinking. In the 14 years that I have been hunting I have only taken 9 deer.

5 bucks and 4 does.

6 on the with shotgun, 1 with bow, 1 with rifle and 1 with muzzle loader.

7 on private land and 2 and state land.

And 7 of the 14 years I have gone home empty handed and only doubled up twice.

I have no idea exactly how many deer I have killed-well over 300 and probably closer to 400-but by far, the majority have been with a bow. For about 20 years, I hunted very little with anything else. Now I am back to shooting whatever I feel like when it is legal.

I will admit, I do get greater satisfaction from bow kills and then either mzl or rifle. But the real satisfaction comes in choosing the right stand site and hunting it correctly. If I do that, usually the actual shot is anticlimatic.

For me, the greatest thrill in deer hunting is to walk into a piece of timber I have never seen before and hang a stand in the right place, the first time and make the kill the first time I hunt it.

With elk, calling one into shooting range was the thrill. With mulies it was the stalk and with antelope, it was beating the heat and rattlers.

Agreed!

im not sure how many ive killed but i would guess most were killed with a bow. however every deer on my wall was killed with a bow. i have yet to kill a good deer with any type of fire arm.

I am at 135+ deer with a bow and I have killed more with shotgun, muzzleloader and rifle combined than I have with a bow.

Bow is my favorite by far.
