I know UTgrad is putting all his stuff together for bow hunting.
Thought he may need some rangefinder info.
IMO it's very necessary, but others can chime in.
I bow hunt several different places on the lease I hunt with my climber. I can't judge distance well enough to make a good bow shot without a rangefinder.
I reasearched the heck out of them and decided on the
Leupold RX-II. Sells for $ 300.
I like it because it has the TBR function and different modes for bow and guns. IMO if you hunt in trees, it's a must have. You can also select different reticals.
I found it easy to operate, and the optics are also good. Not sure of the level of magnification, but it helps a lot.
If you only use it for bow hunting, you can go with the Nikon Archers Choice. I use it for gun and bow,and it is a little smaller than the Nikon. Fits my hand better.
You can spend more money for better quality, but for my hunting this one was just right.
Also, It dropped out of my truck after a hunt, and sat out all hight in the rain. I got it the next day,and it ran fine.
JMO. Hope it helps.
