Bow hunting on the ground

I don't have a treestand. I should've already bought one before the season started I know. But things happen and spent money on other things.I've only went hunting once so far this year and I saw 5 young bucks. One being an 8 point. I would've shot him but he saw me draw back and took off. The spot I'm hunting seems to be a highly hit spot. A lot of rubs and scrapes and they seem to hit an old trophy rock spot frequently. I should be able to buy a treestand in a couple of weeks. So, my question is, should I wait until I get a stand or risk them seeing me and hoping they won't get too spooked become nocturnal? Or them not showing up at all?

I hunt from the ground. I use a longbow and a crossbow. It takes a whole lot of discipline waiting for the right moment to draw your bow. And sometimes that moment never comes. Its a different ballgame from the ground that's for sure. But I don't let it stop me.

Yea I've always wanted to get a deer hunting from the ground. I might get some flack for this lol, but I think it would make me a better hunter.I don't have a lot hunting experience. I make mistakes. Being not still enough is probably the biggest. I'm just worried about scaring them away.

Hey Str8, If I was on the ground I would build me a good blind out of brush. It will blend in well and conceal SOME of your movement.For your question, I'd hunt it whenever I could.You can;t kill em if you're not there !

I'll give it another try next weekend cos I won't have the gas money this week but I'll try again next weekend.I feel so much more comfortable in a stand though lol.There's some brush I could make a blind out of though. Hopefully that 8 or maybe a bigger one will stroll through.

I always hunt from the ground with bow, muzzleloader, and rifle. Build up a blind out of dead falls, brush, tree branches, etc. Wear camo with a face mask and you'll be surprised what you can get away with. It does take more patience from the ground.

Ive killed deer off the ground with my bow but most of TN is more suited to treestand hunting imo. You can however have success from a blind or any type cover to help break up your outline.

Make sure you have a tree to your back. Get some limbs, brush in front of you. You gotta be completely still. It amazes me how close I get to deer on the ground. Face mask, gloves are a must. Scent-a-way. A lot of it.

Most importantly, practice shooting from the seated position that you'll be in while hunting. Good Luck!

I dragged a bunch of limbs and such to create a blind and then did the same thing 25 yards away to try and force deer to walk a certain path. If I could shoot well enough to hit a deer my idea woulda worked.

Shot one last Sunday from the ground. Just had back surgery almost a month ago and that was all I can do for now. Was there about an hour and a half and scored. You have to play the situation right to be successful from the ground. It can be done though.

Not that one....but it did have 20

I have killed deer every conceivable way. But my most memorable kills were two coyotes with a bow while still hunting deer. When I killed the first one, I said that would not happen again in my life. Two weeks later, I did it again. Ground hunting with a bow is very rewarding.
