I'm looking for a boresighter. Anyone have any recommendations. Thinking about the Cabelas mechanical boresighter for $60.00.

I used a lazer bore sighters at Sportsmans Warehouse and mounted all the scopes if I was on the clock. The mechanicals can be just as good but you need to calibrate it off a sighted in rifle.

Under 3 minutes.
That's all it took to bore sight my EOTech 512 and back up iron sights (BUIS) on my new toy.
I didn't want to wait any longer for the other parts I ordered so I set up my shooting rest and target for 50 yards.
Now starting the time I took my Cabela's Universal Laser Bore Sight and put the right adapter in and put it in my new rifle placing it on the rest. I popped up the BUIS and looked at them though the EOTech like it wasn't there. A couple turns and I was on target. I then flipped them down and turned on the EOTech and was off just a few turns to the right. I took the Laser Sight out and put in a magzaine and fired one shot at the target hitting just off center at 50 yards. I turned the EOTech off and popped up the BUIS, fired another round and was 1/4 inch low at 50 yards.
All of that in under 3 minutes before it got too dark.
I wish I could have fired off a whole mag but too many neighbors too close, a couple rounds is about all we can do without drawing attention. I'm going to take it up to the farm and really get going.

Tim, no Sportsman Warehouse here but isn't there one in South Haven? They said they didn't have an on-line catalog.
Wildcat, I checked Cabelas again after I read your post. You are talking about the laser with the arbor, correct?
I liked the looks of the kit that had the laser, leveler and shotgun adaptors. I'm making some changes on a couple of work guns and want to put a scope on my shotgun for NEXT turkey season. I'm sick of wasting ammo just getting on paper!

This is the one I have but you can get the entire kit and it will work.
You will have to adjust each adapter until it fits your barrel but that's no problem.

Years ago I bought one of the cheap Tasco mechanical boresighters and have used it for a lot of different caliber rifles. It'll get you on a sheet of notebook paper maybe within 2 to 3 inches at 100 yards. Most of the variance is due to the loose fit of the mandrels to the bore. I still use it and I have no complaints. It saves a few rounds of ammo before final sight in.

Both Memphis, and Southaven are closed. I ended up with the one from the store, the store mgr liked me well enough he held up selling 2 large boxes full of our scope mounting stuff to give me first dibbs. I liked the price he put on them as well, $5.00. The lazer bore sighter was in one of the boxes.

Hope I have as good a luck as Wildcat.
I read some of the reviews in Cabelas.com and it seems that the biggest gripe that people had was that it didn't "zero" their rifle for them. They were complaining about having to fine tune their scopes after boresighting. A couple of the posters said that they were able to get their rifles "on target" WITHOUT SHOOTING so they could go ahead and hunt!!
Kinda sad when people fluffy kitten about optics, ammo, guns, limbs.....anything but their lack of commitment when they miss.

When you put the adapter in you do not screw it all the way in, you just screw it in enough to help hold it in the barrel. Once on and set up right the bore sight should feel a little tight but should go in easy and push it all the way in unitl it stops.
I've seen people putting their adapters all the way in and then can't get them to go inside the barrel. I've also seen people who had the bore sight just put in half way because they couldn't get it in any more because of their adapter was not adjusted right. Both ways are wrong and will throw the sight off target.
