I'm looking for a good, compact book that will have basic info on plants/tracks/birds in TN. Need it small to fit in a pack.

They make one for each. Try amazon.com. Havent seen a real good one that covers it all. Guide to Eastern Trees is an awesome compact guide. Amphibians and reptiles is another great book from Peterson's. The mammal book is really good too. Dont get the compact "first guides" though. You'll see stuff all the time that arent in the small guides and the big guides are very compact anyways. I would also get the National Geographic North American Bird Guide, its the best bird id book imo. Wildflowers of Tennessee by Jack B Carman is good too. Good luck

I went with the Audubon books. They were basically the same size, eight, and price. These had picture though, which I liked over the drawings from Peterson's. Thanks for input.
