I've never shot one for this reason. I admire them. They're native, not overpopulated, and cool as hell.

That looks more like a mountain lion or cougar. Surely someone else noticed that.

I am the owner of about 100 Beta tape cassettes and a working Sony Betamax player. Somewhere in that 100 tapes (the label ink has faded) is video of a monster California bobcat with a striped coat. He is clearly not afraid as I film him on the 12,000 acre Garcia Ranch where I killed plenty of deer and about 50 or 60 piggies, seen bear, rattlesnakes, my first quail, and had an owl try to eat me. Ha ha, I have a fair sized tarantula trying to bite my boot, pretty cool.

Pretty animals. I see a few every year. One year during archery I had a den of young in an old brush pile near my stand. It was a treat watching them come out and play.
