boat registration?

This may be a dumb question but I couldn't find an answer on the website.

My dad bought a jon boat 3-4 years ago from a guy in a different county. A year after that, dad moved and "misplaced" - lost the bill of sale. He no longer has contact info for the guy he bought the boat from. How can he/I renew the registration? I'm tired of not being able to get it out and fish/hunt in it.

You can't "renew" the registration.

It will have to be registered in your father's name (or yours) as a new registration. Due to Dept. of Revenue regulations, it is going to be very difficult to do without a bill of sale.

Give the Rutherford Co. Court Clerk a call and see exactly what they require for documentation to start the registration process. The issue is not the TWRA part, it is the Dept of Revenue part so they can collect the proper amount of sales tax on the transaction.
