Blonde/Chocolate Oregon Fall Bear

Made a trip out to a buddy's ranch in NE Oregon west of Hell's Canyon. Hadn't been there in 16 years. Forgot what an amazing place it is. Went with intent of getting a color phase bear. His place has Cinnamon, Chocolate, Blond and Black color phases. I knew I was not going to take a black phase. In 5 days I saw 8 bears. No dogs and no bait. Just glassing the areas with water and berry bushes. This hunt occurred in mid August 2021. Fall bear opens 1 August. First few days were hot then it got perfect. Lows in 40s and highs in 60s. I prepped to take 300 yard shot of necessary. Ended up taking this amazing bear at 81 yards just below me in a creek bottom.

It's a 20 year old Savage 110 in a custom walnut stock. Timney trigger. Ammo was Sako 140g Gamehead. Put it through shoulder and it didn't take another step.

I didn't want to! I wasn't retired then. I did a week of fly fishing out there in June. It's good to have a Buddy with an amazing ranch surrounded by millions of acres of BLM and National Forest land. Now that I'm retired I'll probably spend a month a year out there. One Spring trip and one late summer/early fall trip. Gotta be gone before snow starts in October.

Great color, almost the same as my spring bear this year except mine has a white diamond on the throat. Gotta love those color phase bears. I'll pass on the people's republic of Oregon though lol.
