Cheatham.

As for rebuilding blinds... please, everyone that has to rebuild, make sure your blind is at least 6 foot tall inside. We've gotten two blinds over the last few years that the freaking Keebler Elves must have built. I'm only 5'9 and I cracked my head 50 times on low rafters.
 
We are going to Gooch.
From what I gather you gotta get a top 10 or it's a waste of time.

Dunno, never been there.
In fact this will be my very first time to go to the drawings.

Either going to Reelfoot or Camden. Gotta talk it over with another guy or two that we hunt with and see if they have a sportsman's license or if they are planning to buy the WMA and waterfowl permit.
 
After the conversation the other night, we have opted for Reelfoot again. Just gonna make sure we are in a different part of the lake than we were last year.
 
I have a few questions�

What is the best area of all the areas? Since I live in Jackson, I could drive any of them.

How many people are at the drawings? If I am there by 930, I simply have to wait in line to get my name on the list for the drawing correct?

If I was the lucky winner, would it be advantageous to sign on some newly made friends at the drawing? How soon after your name is drawn do you have to choose your brawn and add the names?

How do you know the best blind to pick? The one closest to the river?

If you don't have a dog, how do you retrieve your ducks?

If you don't have a boat, how do you get to the blonde? Can you walk to it?:)

Can't say which is the best as I have only hunted the Camden Bottoms/Harmons Creek and AEDC or Woods Res. I guess it just boils dow to how far you want to drive.

Depends on where you go, the draw at Big Sandy is usually a very large crowd.... some go to draw a blind, some go to get lucky and draw a blind, then turn around and sell it for a wad of cash (depending on how good a blind it is). I would not show up at any draw at 9:30 as that may be cutting it close depending on how far away from the actual "barrel" you have to park and then walk. And yes.

Could be if you don't know the area and they do. Enough time to walk up to the barrel and tell them which blind you want.... they try to move it along quick as possible so as to keep things going. Take your "sign ons" up to the table with you to get your card(s).

Unless you know the area you probably won't know the best blind to pick from the ones left.... that is one reason to have someone with you that is.

If you don't have a dog, maybe someone with you does.... or use a boat.

If you don't have a boat, maybe someone hunting with you does... otherwise, you may be SOL. I highly doubt you would be wading to many of the blinds on any WMA.... unless it was a field blind and I haven't seen very many of those. I only know of 2-3 in the Camden Bottoms/Harmons Creek draw (Big Sandy).
 
From Jackson, you are about the same distance from Reelfoot and Camden. Tigrett is a little closer. Tigrett draw usually has about 1500 people there to draw for 17 blinds. Reelfoot last year had 53 public blinds and about 800 people at the draw. Camden usually has a lot more people(2000 or more from what I have been told) and about 50 blinds.

One big problem with Reelfoot is that in addition to 53 state owned blinds, there are over 150 private blinds on the lake that have not reverted to the state as yet, and a lot of those are used by outfitters. You have to have a large decoy spread and a ton of motion to compete. Also have to hope that someone does not set up a floater close to your draw and cut the birds off before they get to you(happened to us last year, guy behind us never brushed in his family blind, just stuck a floater 180 yards from us between us and the refuge). We are going back, but gonna pick a different area of the lake if we get drawn. We have a wish list of blinds, but it is possible there may be a couple that revert back. At least I hope so. Hoping to not have to rebuild one this year as well.
 
No crops worth anything on Camden but I'll still be there with the other 3000+ unless it pours rain again and only 2700 show up to play the Duck Power Ball of TN.
 
Gonna be one of the 3000 in Big Sandy hoping to get lucky. Anyone have any scoop on which blinds are the best just in case we get lucky?
 
I attended the Big Sandy drawing alone. I arrived at about 9:30, parked for $2 at fire station, and walked a couple of hundred yards to the registration lines. I stood in line about 5 minutes and entered the drawing along with 2800 others.

Here are some observations:

Your odds of having access to a blind are much better if you and your buddies travel in a pack. They are even better if you bring your entire family.

A lot of local people are simply there hoping to draw a blind so they can sell it. While I was in line, a guy made sure that I knew he would be willing to give me the $8000 cash in his pocket for a top ten draw as a sign-on.

Winners quickly meet the duck mafia. They literally are competing against the other crews and get upset if you don't want to sign them on your blind.

The very first winner allowed any youth scholastic sporting clays members present to sign on his blind. This could have been some duck mafia code speak, but I like to think he is just a nice guy.

The entire process could be more efficient! Why cant they simply draw all the names first and let everybody else go home. Allow time for the winners to figure out what they want and let them work with the duck mafia - if that is what they want to do. As it is now, the winners are sort of treated like a criminal until they choose their blind and figure out if cousin X or which new friends they are going to allow to sit with them in their blind.

However, I will probably go to a drawing again next year. I would love to draw a top 5 blind and be the only signer on that card. I should be able to fill those 7 hunting blind spots every day of the season and suddenly have a lot of new guns, deer lease spots, beach condos, etc. for quite some time.
 
We drew a top 5 at Gooch and we weren't approached by anyone wanting to buy it.

Don't think I would sell or barter a spot though, not worth going to jail to me.
 
Looking forward to hunting Tigrett this year...and glad we don't have to rebuild a blind.

Location, location, location.....

buying/selling been going on for years at the Big Sandy draw.... not heard of a single person going to jail yet.... will continue in the future, money talks.
