This year has been an awesome and blessed year. My son headed out yesterday morning to try to fill his final buck tag while my daughter and I headed to a friend's farm to help thin some does.

A little back story…..He shot a giant 8pt the second evening of muzzleloader that we couldn't find. He's been pretty down on that one plus spending some time doing some courting of his own. Lol.

I'm pretty sure the does got the memo that we were coming as they seemed to be in hiding yesterday . Lol. We finally saw one about 8:30, and my daughter made a great 110 yard bang, flop shot. As I reached for my range finder to see exactly how far the deer was, my phone started buzzing, and it was my son. I answered and could hear him breathing heavy from excitement before he said anything. He said, "I got him Dad, he's down." He initially thought it might be the deer he had shot in muzzleloader as it was limping on his right leg. It came out behind 5 does and headed straight towards him. He couldn't move until he turned broad sided at 5 yards where he grabbed his gun, shouldered, and shot all in one motion. He saw him crash. Both kids killed at basically the same time.

I got him calmed down a little and figured out it probably wasn't the deer he had shot earlier but a deer we got pics of the night before. It was a solid 8pt with a big body that he's still tickled with. I think it's probably 4.5 and will check the jaw bone at some point.

He came down and hunted with us yesterday afternoon and brought his girlfriend. He killed a doe, and she now wants to kill one.

Very blessed season and blessed with two kids that love to hunt.

I also think he's found a keeper. She got blood on her yesterday taking pics of the deer and didn't care. She tried to help skin his buck out for a euro while sitting in dried blood. Lol. It's time to get her hunter safety and turn her loose on one.
