Any of u guys shooting blackhorn 209? My dad bought a cva accura and the BH209 breech plug and loves the stuff. Accurate and super easy clean up compared to 777

I don't know about where you are but here the BH209 is $32 a jug verses $35 for Pyrodex pellets and $39 for a box of T7 pellets. This is my first year really messing with it but so far I like it a lot better than the T7 I was using. I can completely clean my barrel with 4-6 patches in just a few minutes versus the T7 where I need a handful of patches, having to scrub the crud ring with a brush and listening to my wife complain about the smell. The shoot til I'm done with no cleaning at the range is also VERY nice and makes it worth measuring the powder instead of using the pellets.

I wish mine would take just a few patches to clean. I've seen a buddy clean his with about 3 patches. Takes probably a dozen for me. But I don't have to scrub like I did with 777.

I use triple 7 and can clean mine in 10 minutes, two swipes down the barrel with some warm water or windex and no crud ring. Cant see it cleaning better than that

Sure its easier, you never have to swab between shots with BH209 which IS part of the cleaning effort and materials. So while you need more patches and effort, BH209 just needs attention when you are done shooting.

Plus i never have to worry about water in my bore. I don't clean my centerfires with water. Why would i want to clean my ML with water? Last time i checked, the solvents/CLPs i use will never cause corrosion. They prevent it unlike water or windex.

Never have a problem with rust or anything. I dont pore water down my barrel, my barrels look brand new with the triple 7. Different strokes for different folks, and i can shoot 5 or 6 times with no swabing between shots

I shot my m/l this week using the Blackhorn 209 for the first time. I has used 777 for the previous 5-6 years. WOW, what a difference. Shooting Barnes 250 gr TMZ in my T/C Omega and 100 gr powder. The Blackthorn 209 was placing my shots 8 inches higher at 50 yards than the 777 using the 100 grains I normally used. The recoil was evident, but very little smoke. Rather than decreasing my powder, I adjusted my scope down to where I was hitting consistently inside an inch circle at 50 yards. I only wish I had more time on the range to shoot 150-200 yards.

U don't have to use a solvent for BH209.... You only have to use an oiled patch and dry patches.... From what I read and what everyone I know who uses it says anyway

The website says to use oil based solvents, so i will stick with my triple 7

Well the cleaning part is not the selling point for me and BH209. BH209 does not absorb moisture like 777 and it produces better ballistics than 777. I would rather have peace of mind knowing my barrel is ok if I don't clean the gun right away after shooting. I've left my barrel dirty for several days with NO ill effects. 777 and Pyrodex suck up moisture and attack metal if not cleaned right away.

I just use the same thing I use on my rifles. Most people have solvent already if they own a rifle so they dont have to buy anything extra. I looked every where for the video of the BH209 test where the guy got it wet on purpose, dried it off with a paper towel and shot it but I can't find it now.

Yes, it's good stuff. So is 777. I recall similar statements back when 777 came out, actually.

Shoot what you like. They're both good. I'm sure in another few years something else will come out to eclipse them both.

I love this stuff, the Blackhorn 209 is the best powder i have ever used.777 was ok but messy, I shoot more consistent with the 209 and have more confidence at longer ranges.Its hotter and easied to clean, also easier for a quick reload if need be (easier to get sabot down barrel,cleaner) Just my 2 cents worth...

I know it's really handy when you need to sight in from scratch. Saves swabbing between shots, and no crud ring, so you can continue shooting till you get on zero.

Ok, I started with Pyrodex which worked pretty good, then switched to 777 after it came around which I liked better than pyrodex. Switched to blachorn when it came out and liked it better than 777. I think it easier to clean up since I don't have to carry hot soapy water out to the garage to clean it with. Wasn't crazy about switching to loose powder after using pellets, but my Encore has never shot better. I did have more issues with surface corrosion using the 777 because I had my gun sighted in with a dirty barrel so I didn't have to swab with wet then dry patch between shots when it's really cold. My 1st shot using blackhorn with a clean barrel is no different than my 15th shot without any swabbing and no difference in loading. I don't miss that crud ring from 777 after a couple shots and trying to seat the bullet.

No crud ring, no issues with rust, i can shoot multiple times and never swab between shots, no change in accuracy and when i do clean my barrel i dont have to use soapy water, i run a wet warm piece of cloth tied to a string pull down the barrel twice, once from the muzzle and once from the breech, clean as can be. Run a light coat of oil down the barrel, no problem

My 1st shot using 777 or pyrodex from my encore with a clean barrel was always high and to the right, but with blackhorn it's dead on with a clean or dirty barrel, that's the main thing I like about it. I could never get my TC clean with just running a wet patch of any kind down the barrel twice. Maybe the crud ring is a little more noticeable with TC's since they have a slightly tighter bore?

I need cleaning lessons :) in all my years of pyrodex,777 and pellets in each I never had a gun that two pulls from a oiled cloth would clean (to my satisfaction anyways). The bh209 pulled my groups in to right at an inch. I will never go back to any of the others unless I had to for some strange reason.
