Blackhorn question

Im looking to switch to blackhorn powder this season. The gun im useing is a CVA optima V2. My current load is 110gr loose 777 and a 300gr hornady sst with rem kleenbore primer. I was not impressed with those primers but that was all i could find last season.

So today i went to basspro to find other primers i saw where people reccomended CCI 209m but they didnt have any marked 209M they had standard CCI 209s and CCI 209 magnums, i just assumed the magnums where the same as 209m am i right?

Also what would be a good starting load for the blackhorn and my 300gr sst to try? Thanks for any help.

The M 209's are the magnum primers and Federal primers are highly recommended also with Blackhorn. I would get the breach plug recommended to use with blackhorn in your CVA. Your gun will probably shoot without it but will have miss fires with the stock breach plug. Blackhorn and loose 777 are pretty close when comparing amounts needed because 120 grains of loose 777 and Blackhorn are considered to be equal to 150 grain load of pyrodex or 777 pellets. I would start with a 100gr. and work my way up.

X2 and the BH breachplug is a must i had 2 misfires before.changing ..I shoot cva accura v2 100gr BH209 Barnes 250grain TEZ and CCI magnum primers...results speak for themselves at 100yards

What is yalls opinion on the 300gr sst? I shot 1 deer last year with it and it fell in its tracks i was thinking on a lighter bullet but had issues with 250gr ahockwaves in years past.

the shockwaves are made by hornady for Thompson center. They're the same bullet with different color tips.

I'd go with Barnes like others mentioned. By far the best bullet I've tried so far. I would think the 250's would be more than enough and have very good accuracy. I'm shooting the 195gr in 45 because there just isn't too many to choose from. I do like them better than the SST's when it comes to performance on a deer.

FYI, don't use hot soapy water for clean up, clean it like you do any other gun. It also works best to run a dry patch down the barrel 1st to remove the dry looking residue before adding the cleaner to a patch.

Shot it yesterday out to 50 yards, used 105gr blackhorn and a 300gr sst. really happy

I cleaned it and the barrel cleaned up great but was wondering whats the best way to clean the breechplug?

Clean the breech plug with the same cleaner that you cleaned the barrel with.

Ok. It just looked like their was some soot still inside it. I tried useing a qtip or 4 and it still wasnt cleaned to my likeing

Get a 3mm drill bit to clean the CVA plug flash channel. Its simple and quick if you didn't let too much carbon build up. If there is a lot of carbon you will need to use a smaller bit first. The carbon can get extremely hard.

I use a hex head bit and a nut driver handle. A regular bit and a pin vise works also.
