I bought some Blackhorn 209 powder and have a question...Either I'm missing it or it doesn't tell. Is 100 grains of Triple 7 the same as 100 grains of Blackhorn?
 
Well they say 120 grains of each, blackhorn and loose 777 is equal to 150 grains of the other powders or pellets so I don't see why it wouldn't be. It just burns cleaner than loose 777 IMO.

Who is they? I have never heard they are equal... Last I researched it 120gr BH209 was the max you could shoot out of ML.. From my experiences they are not equal, but like I said I have not researched it lately. I think 110grs of BH = 150grs of 777 from my field testing.
 
From reading in other forums it's been said that loose 777 is 15 to 20% hotter than pyrodex or the 777 pellets and 120 grains of loose is considered a max load. Just going from information from a lot of different users on other forums about loose 777 and blackhorn.
 
Does this stuff kick as bad as 777? If I don't sell my current muzzleloader might try it if it doesn't kick too bad. I have a bad shoulder so anything that kicks hard is out.
 
Blackhorn's website has a pretty extensive ballistic table with many of today's popular bullets used.

Just my opinion, with the nitro base of this powder, I tend to maybe think it more smokeless than BP sub. Western Powder touts it as a sub so I reckon that's what it is. Personally I'd approach max charges with caution.
