Blackhorn 209

What are your thoughts on it? I am thinking of changing to it from Tipple 7. Who uses Blackhorn 209 and do you see any down side to it?

I shoot BH209 and the only down side is it requires magnum 209 primers such as Federal 209 or CCI Magnums. Greatest stuff ever!

I'm impressed with it. Tried it for the first time about a month ago. Seems just as consistant in my cva wolf as triple 7 and much cleaner. 80 grain bh209, 300 gr xtp, n mmp sabot.

We are getting some from Final Flight i guess. I had a buddy that was up there yesterday and picked up me and him a 1 lb bottle. I guess that is why it is $44.99. I think the ones i have seen online for $29.99 were the 10 oz bottle.

i thought it only came in a 10oz bottle?at bass pro in sevierville their 10oz bottle is 44.99 let me know when you get it if it is indeed a 1lb bottle

I tried it yesterday. I was not impressed! I will not shoot with the breach plug i have in my gun. The other 2 guns we shoot it out of would not group with it any better than 3 to 4 inches at 100 yrds. We tried different gr from 120 gr to 90 gr. Nothing would group. And when all the shooting was done it still took a lot of cleaning to to get the guns clean. I will stick to 777.

I will have to admit that I did not read all the different directions of this powder till we shot some more today! I was trying to clean it with a water based cleaner witch it says not to. I guess that is why it was so hard for me to get clean. What bore cleaners do you use to clean the gun with then?

We did try 777 and Pioneer power yesterday along with Buckhorn 209 and there is no comparison when shooting that Buckhorn 209 is WAY cleaner powder! I just wish I had the right breach plug to shoot it and I need to find the right cleaning products to clean the gun after shooting this powder.

I shoot a Austin & Halleck 420. I can't shoot it with the 209 breech plug that is in my gun. It shows a pic of it on the bottle and says not to use that type of breech plug!

I did try the Triple 7 primers at first before reading not to use them! Yea they don't work! lol We bought some hotter primers now it shoots good.

It says on the bottle of Buckhorn 209 to not use water based black powder cleaning products. I also was trying to clean the guns after shooting Buckhorn 209 with my normal ML cleaning supplys. It says to use oil based cleaning products to clean the guns with.

i'll stick with the easy soap and water clean-up of pyrodex. it has served me well for over 20 years and i see no reason to change.having to use solvents is not my idea of easier cleanup.

Great stuff. I switched to it from 777 a few years ago after having problems with the burn ring at bullet seat depth. Best stuff I have ever used. I don't worry about corrosion and clean up is a breeze with good ole hoppes. My Remington Genesis patterns awesome with Powerbelt 300 grain platnums and 100 gn bkhrn 209. Load after load goes down just as easy without cleaning and patterns the same.

I bought some Hoppes to clean up BH209. It only took about 3 patches with Hoppes and 3 clean patches and the barrel was spotless inside! :grin:

High Forest Building Supply in Hohenwald has it for $34.95/bottle. I havent tried it but I like the IMR White hots for all the above reasons, clean burning, tightened my groups up and it comes in pellets, I dont like loose powder unless its in my old sidelock.

Not really any downside......Much cleaner, you do have to use solvent to clean like your rifle.

My uncle has been using it and really likes it. I picked up a can the other night and fired 5 rounds in my Win Apex .45 the next afternoon... They can keep the Triple 7 and all the others...

OK. My buddy bought some Blackhorn 209 and has had 4 misfires on two separate occations in the past 2 weeks. We are using Winchester 209 primers and he was shooting Powerbelts 245g. Cleaning the gun with the CVA stuff.

BTW, no misfires with the 777 pellets. What gives?
