I know deer browse on the plant itself, but do they really like
the ripe berries. I know bear and other game love blackberries, but I have never actually watched deer eat them.

I have no doubt a deer would step over its own mother to get to ripe blackberries if they're sweet enough. I usually beat them to the bush though.

They eat the snot out of them.

In addition, another fruit deer eat during the summer that most hunters never think about is wild cherries. I've noticed that many of the cherry trees are really loaded this year. They will ripen and fall in July.

Deer also eat wild plums and muscadine grapes in September. Those can be early bow-season hot-spots.

Trust me . i was out all day tuesday in the fields of ours and the blackberries surrounding the edges were eaten up!!!
Paths beat out around them like humans had been picking them.....but noone had been there. just deer!

I walked through a couple hundred acres of them in a clearcut on the hunting lease today . I couldn't resist eating a few along the way .

Well I could not imagine eating a blackberry. But it sure comes in handy for making phone calls.

I just performed some mitigation on feeding availability. I have some blackberry thickets that NO animal could walk through to feed on so I just bush hoged some travel lanes for them to gain access. Now it will be better utilized.
