Black powder

Is there any place in the Nashville or surrounding area that carries real black powder? I have been using Pyrodex P in my .36 cal and have been wanting to try real black powder to see if there is any difference in the way it shoots. Thanks.

The last black powder I bought a few years ago was at Bass Pro in Nashville. Don't know if they still carry it.

Checked with Bass Pro and the only thing they carry is T7, some pyrodex and Shokeys Gold. They told me they didn't sell much of the real black so they quit carrying it. Thanks.

It is so corrosive you will repent and see the error of your ways. It ruins a barrel if you dont stay on top of cleaning. It is in my opinion like asking for a b&w tv. when color is so good.

i have benn making mine for years, small amounts.
75% salt peter
15% sulfur
10% charcol
by weight

i mostly use it for my flint lock, but have used it in my 1847 walker also.
just clean it god afterwards.

Mountain man.. like your self i have also made 90% of my powder for years now..It does not take long to make and i like it much better then store bought.. I seem to get a much more constant velocity with it.. I also use mine in my Flintlock.. oh wait.. that is all i use is a flintlock!! But i also nap a lot of my own flints also.. Out to 100 yards i will go toe to toe with ANY Muzzleloader and have made shots on deer out to 125 yards but let's face it..99% of all shots taken at deer are 50 yards of less..

Flint good to see others enjoy getting messy, lol. I hunt with my CVA Kentucky .45 and Lee cast minnie balls. I bought that smoke pole in a kit close to 30 years ago. In that time I never had a missfire. And only missed 3 deer, over 100 yards, and a full case of buck fever.
I made my first batch of powder in high school chemestry class. Been hooked every since.
I'm in the process of assembling two "mountian rifles" in .40 and .36 cal. 42" barrels and iron orniments. can't wait to test them. Rooster

Mountain Man.. i have been told many many times that when i cut myself i bleed black.. cause i shoot so much Black powder... I go thru about 5 pounds of powder a year..I also make all my own balls and very selectively pick out patch material from stores..carry a micrometer right with me.. I built a Jacob Dickert this past winter in .50 Cal. like your self have been shooting Black powder for over 30 years now
