That's an interesting paper, I have several black coyotes on my place. Our ratio is a lot higher than 8% the spoke of in the study. I'm wondering why other than maybe a melanistic female having many pups? I've seen one in person but, get one on trail camera about every night.

My buddy got one on opening day of rifle season. It was the first one he or I had ever seen.
Congratulations to your buddy. I have killed a crap load of coyotes over the years, seen plenty I wasn't able to kill, and have never seen or gotten a single trail cam pic of a black one.

Several years ago a man picked up 2 black coyotes that had been killed together near the Sevierville exit on I-40. Called them in to TWRA as rare black phased red wolves. He was very disappointed to find out they were coyotes.

Cool mount. Never had an interest in having any coyote mounted, but if I was ever to kill a black one, would probably have to get it mounted.
At the time I had a normal one mounted
So I had to be equal opportunity with the black one

I told the ex wife we have to lol
