Black Bear Hunt

Can anyone recommend an outfitter in TN, NC, VA, or W.VA. that offers a "spot and stalk" style bear hunt? Fair chase only.

The success rate with spot and stock and chances of that down here in the east is low. The only real spot and stalk I ever hear about is around clear cuts in the spring after they come out of hibernation. Canada's east coast is known for this hunting. I'm sure people do it down around here though. From hunting with dogs, I usually have had best luck and seen more bears in W. VA. Jim Shockey killed a NC record with an outfitter. Might try looking at his site to see with who and how.

I tried it last year and am trying again this year. There is really no "spot" aspect to hunting these bears in thick mountain laurel and Rhododendron. Its more of a "bumble along and hope to run into a bear" affair.

and hope you see them before they see you.

Montana offers this type of hunting, Wyoming hunters use bait but u can still do some spot and stalk.

I have never hunted bear there but if I went on a true spot n stalk it would be in Montana. Lots of public land and beautiful country.
